Many of you might have already read this before; I did, after all, first hear about it in a thread on System Wars yesterday. But I read itin its entirety, and when I was through, I coud clearly see where we are headed... and if that is true, then brace yourself.
I want you guys to read thisthesis, called Birdmen and the Casual Fallacy. It is simply brilliant.
I want you guys to read it fully, or you will miss the point of it. I know it's long, but basically, it's entertaining and enlightening, and therefore, I think you should check the whole thing out.
The author describes what Nintendo have done with the DS and the Wii... and he describes how and why the Wii is the future of hardcore gaming, and before somebody posts it, no, this has nothing to do with motion controls being integrated into all games, because that will not be the cause, that will just be the effect.
Seriously, read it. And you will understand. Nintendo are geniuses.

That was very long. i had noticed this about Nintendo for a long time, but i just didn't know in detail how organized the "DISRUPTION" stratergy was. I think the article had a lot of informed points,but to think that if this stratergy works SONY or M$ will be out of business is just ridiculous. Let me tell you a story about a galaxy far far away. In the beginning there was NINTENDO who dominated the gaming landscape.They destroyed Atari, there only competition at the time. Nintendo ruledwith and iron fist. Then came The Sega Gensis. Sega tried to take the crown fron Nintendo using SONIC to take on MARIOand whether SF2 and MK looked better on either consoles. Nintendo won the war of course. Years past and after Nintendo refused to join with SONY the PLAYSTATION came out. Needless to say Nintendo got there a$$e$ handed to them, and just like that and era came to an end.Mr. Malstorm said "the industry lived without MARIO now they can't live witout it.", well the industry lived without Master Chief and now we can't live without him, we lived without XBOXLIVE and now, we spent more than 1 billion hours and hundreds of millions of dollars on just ONE system.MR. Malstorm stated similar figures for the ENTIRE"casual gamers community'.
I konw Mr. Malstorm is 10 times smarter than me, and I think he is right when he says SONY and M$ missed the train on the "downmarket " low tier gamers". However, I think M$ was planning their own grand scheme with XBOXLIVE. Mr. Malstorm said the advertisers are chasing consumers because consumers don't watch T.V. and read the newspapers anymore. I believe M$ noticed this shift in consumers behavior and adjusted their business model to this new trend.
So while Nintendo focused on the DISRUPTIVE stratergy and the retard.....I mean "casule gamers"M$ put their focus and energy in the on-line medium. SONY and Nintendo missed the train on online play; even though Nintendo is putting its first string teams on the downmarket games and is doing an excellent job. They have alienated themselves from "HARDCORE GAMERS",so even WHEN they swim up stream I don't think they will be able to sustain and maintain the "casule crowd" or the "hardcore crowd"(although, no one except SEAN MALSTORM can figure out why the Wii and DS sell so much). The point is 7yrs ago everybody thought NINTENDO was dead, 5yrs everybody thought MICROSOFT XBOX was dead and SONY would be king forever because of the PS2, just imagine what we'll think 2yrs from now.
SONY just dropped the ball with bad vision and bad management, so sad.:idea:
