I am very much a movie person. In fact, I would easily go as far as to say that movies play a bigger role in my life than video games do. But the simplicity of the part in my life that video games play is one of the reasons why it is important. They are a nice little escape to some fun that would but usually denied by the laws of physics in the real world. It's sometimes nice to get involved in something; that is why I play video games. Because of this, I look at video games in a more simplistic manor than I'm sure most of you do. I look at the way they fill the basic needs of someone who wants to get away for a while. To describe it in a way the movie lover in me would best understand, I look at the Die Hards of video gaming rather than the Citizen Canes. The games that produce the kind of entertainment that only Bruce Willis could produce. Than again, the way people look at video gaming is much more different than most people look at movies. With film, critics are looking at the acting, the story, the meaning, and so many other layers that are involved in a film. These are all just as important in video games, but it is different because we have to factor in the involvement of the player in the game. This involvement changes the way that all the other layers are looked at. It changes the way the story is, it changes the acting, it changes the meaning of a game itself. This is probably why video game movies (and vice versa) are so unsuccessful . It's like glueing a cat to a dog; they are both pets, but they are very different. They try and transition something that wasn't meant to be in that sort of situation and put it in anyway. Anyway, if anyone was wondering what kind of gamer I am; there it is. No labels. Just words. Take it as you want but thats the way I feel.
