Why Play?

This is a big question. You have to ask yourself why do you play the games that you do. In some cases the reasons for playing a particular game are somewhat flimsy at best, but if you don't know the real reason that you play these games then you should be asking yourself what that is. There are reasons to play particular games, graphics, gameplay, the neat weapons, the storyline and so on. These are isolated incidents. You need a real reason to be playing any and all of the games that you do. In my personal case, I have nothing to prove, I don't really care about specials/unlocks or other bonuses. The first, and primary reason that I play any game is for the fun of it. I mean, there is very little chance that you're going to get paid for playing anytime soon. As soon as the game starts to feel like a job, you should seriously be considering putting it away and finding something else to do. Games are meant to be fun, and this should be the real driving reason that any one of us should play any one of the millions of games that are out there.

Comparisons

How do you compare a game purely on one system with a game purely on another? It's a bit difficult if you want to do it honestly. Comparing the same game on two different systems, now that is different. This is the sort of comparison it is easier to make. I mean, it is possible to compare games across systems, but it must be made by a person who has played both, on the different systems, otherwise, I would have to say that there is no basis for comparison. Be careful in your comparisons, and make the comparisons make sense. There is little point comparing, for instance Wolfenstein 3D with Final Fantasy X-2 unless you have played both. I haven't, so I won't.

What do you want?

Biggest question that all games manufacturers want to know. This is also a question that we all, as gamers need to ask ourselves. There is little point playing Tom Clancy games, dying and complaining about it, that's realism. There is also little point complaining about using great deals of ammo in Black, that seems to be the main point of the game, lots of ammo, lots of targets. We need to be sure about what we are looking for. When I play sci-fi I expect mutants/aliens etc. When I play more realistic games I expect a little more difficulty. Each game should be played and rated in and of itself except where comparison is asked for or needed.
