The game is perfect for them. Has everyone knows its set up into zones and a couple of places within that zone. There is even a "broken" six zone thats inaccesible.
THe expansion pack would include
New zone 6-1,6-2,6-3
New monsters
New magic
New bosses
New equipment
All for 15 dollars; that alot of content there seeing how the full games has 5 zones and its a 60 hour game so one zone would last around 12 hours. (thats if you suck, if youre good the game only lasts you 20 hours)
I've yet to get LittleBigPlanet and I'm just wondering whether it's hard to create yer own levels in the game. I dunno, maybe the options are not explained well enough? Or they're really overwhelming or just hard to get used to? Any problems like this exist? Or maybe it's all generally simple but requires lots of patience?
Also, are some level creation options locked at the beginning the game and you're required you to collect them through the story mode thing-ee or are they all ready to be used at the start? Cause I'd most prob try to jump straight into creating levels when I get the game and if some options are indeed locked then I guess I've got to play through it first.

The tools are very accesible. You can learn the basics to make a good level in 30 minutes, but if you want to make a game with insane never before seen tech its gonna take some mastering which will take a while but still not to long. More trial and error than actually not knowing the tools. And your second question, you need to play the first 3 story mode level to unlock create mode, online mode and news planet, and once you get in create mode theres nothing to unlock
