@Vodoo: While i do agree that the old bulldozer or...piledriver? 8 core CPU at 1.4GHz fucking sucks, but there was literally nothing else sony could do, if they went with a quad core intel sure it would be pretty much the same performance but at double the price. i think that sony should have at least clocked the CPU up to 1.6GHz like microsoft did but they had a huge advantage in GPU and ram speed (GDDR5 vs DDR3) thats why if you look at the original xbone vs PS4 the PS4 always had higher resolutions and more stable framerates, so next gen its likely the only differentiation between the two consoles will be the GPU, Microsoft wont make the mistake of letting sony win again, i expect that since sony is going with Zen 2 then MS will go with Zen+ clocked high enough to match zen2 or MS will wait and get zen 2 and clock it 200MHz higher, but again it really all depends on GPU and ram since even the 1st zen release is at least 50% faster clock for clock than what we have now.
@melante: what past mistakes would that be? the PS4 and Pro a pure gaming machines first and media players 2nd, it has a faster GPU and that Xbox but the CPU is 200MHz slower because at the last minute MS decided to overclock their GPU and CPU to compete with the PS4. if MS launches early they will be using Zen+ on 12NM where as sony will be on Zen2 on 7NM and its estimated to have a 10 to 15% IPC increase over Zen+ but consoles usually launch with lower clock speeds so if sony launches their console at 1.4GHz again all MS has to do is up the clock speed of ZEN+ to 1.6GHz to make up for it like they did with the xbone, what it will come down to is GPU and RAM to make the difference between the two.
