dedicated server is typically a server that is operated by one person who is able to utilize all of the resoureces of the server. A dedicated server is more expensive than a VPS (Virtual Private Server) where multiple people divide the resoureces of one servier.

VPS ranges from 4 people per server, to what is more commonly referred to as a "shared server" -- the cheapest, in which case as many as 800 people may be using the resources of one server to run their stuff.

I don't think its any different technically from the other systems.

The only differences are that its black, has a larger hard drive, and typically comes with a headseat and HDMI cable in the package.

I don't think its illegal to play online poker in the US. The UIGEA law passed a few years ago makes it illegal for American banks to fund online gambling related instituations which operate from outside the USA. It is illegal to run an online poker room from inside the US but it is not illegal for a player to play at a private owned poker room such as Pokerstars.

anyways, that "bring it" site looks interesting...although i'm not sure how legitimate it looks. It looks like more of a match wager type system. The initial post was saying that if it was possible to play FPS for money, that a payout buy-in structure similare to online poker would work well.

Bigger tournaments such as 9 or more players would render camping a bad strategy.

Also, online gambling has an interesting future and it looks like there will be regulations implemented in the near future. It seems that inevitably, games such as first person shooters will work their way into the market.

I don't think it would be good to be high rolling or anything unless you're a total bad ace at a particular game, but like a dollar entry fee games would be fun.

FPS would be classified as a complete skill game...similarly playing backgammon online for real money is legal in many places where online poker is not. A poker tournament like structure entree fee with similar payouts, but in an fps skill based game could add alot of spice to playing a game like halo or something and add new strategy to how you go about a round.

I think it would be fun if there was a Halo or other First-Person-Shooter setup similar to an online poker sit-n-go where 9 players payed an entee fee, and the top 3 would be paid.

It could go further like an online poker multi-table-tournament structure, where say 220 players enter a game and the prize pool would be split over the top 27 finisher spots.

This would be fun because just like in online poker, specific strategies would be developed for doing well in different tournament structures...it would add some spice...and you could piss people off by just trying to mess up their chances of placing which would be kind of fun.

Anyways, does anyone think it would be fun to have FPS setups like this?

I know theres not much of a way to play games like this online or xbox live for money, but i think FPS games could work well with an online poker type tourney structure.

Are their live games like this? or are most competitions largely match tournaments?
