@domiddian: I understand the point that you're making, but I respectfully disagree.
The world is an incredibly dangerous place right now, and we all need to understand that it won't get any safer unless we do something to change it.
The U.S. is one of the most blessed countries in the world, and we receive a lot of freedoms and liberties that other countries don't, and many times we end up taking them for granted. Is it really such a terrible thing to ask that we (and I mean all of us) make sacrifices in order to put an end to this tyranny once and all?
It is clearly not a perfect situation, but we live in a world plauged by monsters.
@Wintermist: They are names of specific people who have committed suspicious acts that have deemed them terror threats. This guy just happened to have the same name as someone on the list. Much the same way I have the same first and last name as "X amount" of other people in the world.
Yes, it is very sad that this happened. No he shouldn't have to go through extra hurdles just to sign up for a video game.
That being said, is it wrong? No, I don't believe it is. The reason that his name was flagged, was for being listed on a list of legitimately dangerous potential terrorists. The people on these lists are not nice people. There are reasons why they are there, and we should take every precaution necessary to protect ourselves from them.
If you look back at most of the terrorist attacks in recent memory, you will see that a large majority of the attackers were on watch lists of some sort, and yet they were still able to carry out their various atrocities. Why? It is my belief that it's because of the respective countries unwillingness (or inability) to properly look in to these threats and determine whether they are legitimate or just suspicion. Thus making it easier for true Americans to live out their daily lives unencumbered.
If various little checks like the one mentioned in the article were instituted, perhaps we could eliminate the real threats before they strike again.
It is the actions of cowards and animalistic warlords who have given an entire group of people a bad name. We should spend less time bickering over social, class, and race issues and more time finding and destroying the real enemy.
@ggregd: I disagree with this. Darth Maul was a very important, albeit under-utilized, character. So far as we know he was the emperor's only other apprentice, and had incredible potential for a redemption story.
Technically even if this is true, if "Just Games" pitched the idea to Jenner (or an authorized legal representative) without having he/she sign an NDA, then theoretically they could do whatever they wanted to with it. So long as it wasn't a bit for bit copy, and even then it would be hard to enforce.
Regardless of your feelings for "Phantom Menace", it's hard to argue that Darth Maul wasn't a super underappreciated character. I sincerely hope this makes it to production!
