PC's and Ratings

I was looking at some games by the rating, and I noticed that most consoles have games that have received perfect 10's, such as the Nintendo 64, all three Playstation's, the Nintendo Wii, the Dreamcast, and the Xbox 360. The highest rated game on the PC, the longest running gaming system, is Diablo, which scored a 9.6. Anyways, I've composed a short list of PC games that I'm crossing my fingers to earn a perfect 10:

Star Wars: The Old Republic

a Starcraft II Battle Chest (if they make one)

Crysis 2

and

Diablo III

Let's cross our fingers with these games that they'll be praised with their excellence. If you have any more games that you want to add, feel free to in the comments section. \/

Computer can't run Starcraft II

I've been waiting for Starcraft II for quite a while, and I've realized that my computer's system doesn't cut it. It does bug me, but I'm thinking about getting an entirely new computer.

My Review Got Deleted

I went to check my GameSpot today, and I found out that they deleted my review of Halo 3. I do admit, I was flaming the game. So, Gamespot, I apologize for posting that review. I was just stating my opinion of that game. So, that's that.

Failing Genres

I've decided to take a look at video game genres as they are today. Let's get started: First-person shooter (FPS): I've decided to start with this, because it is on a crash course to fail. Every other game released is a first-person shooter. If you read my review on Halo 3, you would get a hint on why. But let's face it. There's nothing that can be innovative in the genre. So, in the perspective of a person who likes innovative games, these games are insanely bland. If I were to think of some ways to make the genre more innovative (and name some games that did, but kind of failed), this would be what I would come up with: A way to make moving around more interesting (Acrobatics-Mirrors Edge) A game engine that expands things greatly (+1,000,000 weapons-Borderlands) A game that's a hybrid with another genre (FPS+Real-Time Strategy-Raven Squad: Operation Hidden Dagger) That's all I can think of. Let's continue: Rhythm games: Although Rock Band is making improvements to the genre, other games are not getting what the genre needs. In 2009, rhythm games came out constantly, making the genre bland. If Rock Band 3 can succeed, then the genre's okay. Action-adventure: The reason I am putting this particular genre on here is that most of the games for this genre are based on movies, and you know how those turn out. If this genre can get some good games, then it'll be okay. Well, that's all I have to say, so see ya later!

Starcraft II FTW!!!

I can't wait for Starcraft II. The original Starcraft is just plain f**king awesome. The only problem is that my computer sucks. Seriously. It sucks. Other than that, I can't wait!

My Opinion on the Music Genre of Video Games

Well, I want to voice my opinion on the matter of "music games", like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. If I were to sum up the music game genre, I would say it's a way to discover bands you've never heard of before. For all of those people who think that people who play Guitar Hero or Rock Band need to "learn how to play an actual instrument", have you seen the prices of actual instruments?! These games are for people who don't want to spend $1,000 on an instrument, but they still want to have fun and "rocking out". Well, enough said.

Is World of Warcraft Really That Good?

I know, I know. World of Warcraft is the most played online game. But is it really good for our brains? I think not. Lately, when hear the words "World of Warcraft", I think of a game that's full of drug and sex addicts. Or is that MySpace? World of Warcraft is a game that, to me, you are playing it 23 hours a day, or you're not playing it at all. I, myself, am not a World of Warcraft player. I'm sure most people have seen what the game does to people when it gets taken away from them. If you haven't, go on YouTube, and type in "greatest freak out ever original video". What you'll see is disturbing. Anyways, I just wanted to say my opinion on World of Warcraft. If you are offended by what I've said, then don't read it. It's just my personal opinion. I'm not trying to force it on others. My opinion of World of Warcraft isn't the same as my opinion of Blizzard. I think that Blizzard is an excellent game maker, but I don't like World of Warcraft. Well, enough said.

Which is Better? Rock Band or Guitar Hero?

Which is better? Rock Band or Guitar Hero? Let's find out. We all know that Guitar Hero came out first, but Guitar Hero was first developed by Harmonix, the current developer of Rock Band. Harmonix developed Guitar Hero, and Guitar Hero II. At Guitar Hero III, Neversoft took over. After leaving the Guitar Hero series, Harmonix started working on Rock Band. They wanted to expand the horizon of music games, and they did this by adding full band support. In Rock Band, you could have 4 players playing on drums, vocals, guitar, and bass. After it's initial release, Harmonix began adding DLC (downloadable content) every week, expanding Rock Band's music library. Rock Band was praised by critics, earning a 9.0 on GameSpot. Guitar Hero III, on the other hand, stuck with the guitar and bass. Although, the best version of Guitar Hero III got an 8.0. After establishing itself in the world of music games, Rock Band began aiming higher, with the release of Rock Band 2. In Rock Band 2, Harmonix added some small changes. Those small changes didn't affect the overall image of Rock Band 2, and it received an 8.5 on GameSpot. Neversoft then countered Rock Band 2 with the release of Guitar Hero: World Tour. Guitar Hero: World Tour added full band support, with drums and vocals. It received an 8.0, though. In 2009, Activision, the publisher of Guitar Hero, Neversoft, and Beenox milked the Guitar Hero series like no other. 2009 alone saw the release of 7 mediocre Guitar Hero (and games that ended with "Hero") games. Guitar Hero: Metallica, Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits, Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, Guitar Hero 5, DJ Hero, Band Hero, and Guitar Hero: Van Halen were all released in 2009. In 2009, Harmonix released Lego Rock Band, and The Beatles: Rock Band. I admit, Harmonix may have milked it a little, but not as much as Guitar Hero. Lego Rock Band got a 7.5, and The Beatles: Rock Band got a 9.0. Lego Rock Band may have fallen a little short, but The Beatles: Rock Band is one of Harmonix's best Rock Band games. In 2010, Harmonix released Green Day: Rock Band, which got a 7.5. Rock Band 3 will be released in October, and it will raise the level for music games by adding keyboard support and three-part vocal harmonies, which were already introduced in Beatles: Rock Band. Neversoft will release Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, but it doesn't seem to try to raise the level at all, with a metal soundtrack, and the same four player band. Now, let's talk about instruments for each game. We will start with the guitar/bass. Rock Band has a spectacular guitar, with responsive buttons, and a well-working strum bar. Guitar Hero's guitar is okay, but it has a useless touch pad below the buttons, which fails to respond to anything. In terms of microphones, they're both the exact same in terms of performance. Now, let's talk about drum sets. The latest Rock Band drum set has a four pad drum set with a pedal. Everything works well. The pads are made right, so they're not so bouncy, and not too stiff. The pedal works great, and it will take a TON of effort to break it. The drum set comes with ports for cymbal attachments, for the people who are looking for a more realistic experience. The Rock Band drum set is an excellent peripheral. The Guitar Hero drum set, on the other hand, is the worst thing a designer can come up with. It has three pads, and two "cymbals", and a pedal. The pads are way too rubbery, so a single hit will send your drum stick flying in the air. The cymbals overlap the pads, so when you want to hit the pads, you may just hit the cymbal. The pedal was a horrible design to begin with. Everytime you use it, it will most likely break. So, I'm sure that Rock Band peripherals are better. So, which is better? Rock Band or Guitar Hero? I'm going to say that Rock Band is a trillion times better than Guitar Hero. I've played both games, I've used both instruments, and I know from experience that Rock Band is better. I'm pumped for Rock Band 3's release. It will not disappoint me. If you're a Guitar Hero player, switch to Rock Band ASAP. You won't regret it.
