I really hope they make a game that can cater to everyone's tastes.
They didn't release a game in 2014, so hopefully it means they're working hard on the 2015 release. It's a good thing though, I'm glad they're taking their time instead of just rushing an unrefined game to retail shelves.
A developer from Ghost Games did say that they will do "a much better job" with fans going forward. Fingers crossed that they'll keep their word
You don't want to see better physics and handling ?
This is also something I forgot to mention and yes, I would really like controllable cars, and at the very least, somewhat accurate feeling of downforce.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the long, sweeping drifts of Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted 2012 but I also liked the grippy feel of the cars in Most Wanted 2005.
I'll be honest, some games had atrocious handling (I'm looking at you, The Run)
This is meant to be an open discussion type of thread, just a collection of opinions and desires from everyone in the community.
My post below is kind of long, so you don't even have to read it if you don't want to, but it's a good time-killer if you're bored.
You can just skip reading and let me know what you want in an NFS game.
What I really want to see:
1) A great variety of cars.
- Classic cars (Lamborghini Muira, Ford Mustang 1967, Datsun 240)
Basically a mixture of classic cars from all around the world, maybe not a whole bunch of them, but just the iconic/popular ones.
However I feel like this category should not be a huge percentage of cars in the game.
- Muscle Cars (Shelby GT500 Supersnake, Dodge Challenger Hellcat, Corvette Z06)
In this category I'm referring to the more recent/modern American cars
- Exotics (LaFerrari, McLaren P1, Porsche 918, Koenigsegg One:1)
Not much explanation needed, I freaking love supercars and hypercars, and it would be awesome if they included these
- Tuners (Nissan GT-R, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, Toyota Supra)
A fan favorite category, many members of the community have been asking for these to return since Underground 2
(Also, if someone could please answer: What category does the Lexus LFA fall under? I know it's Japanese but I'm not sure if that necessarily makes it a tuner)
- Concept Cars (Honda NSX [the new one], Toyota FT-1, Lamborghini Asterion, Jaguar CX-75)
Cars that aren't in production don't get much spotlight in video games. Well, let me rephrase that...concept cars should get more spotlight in video games.
I'm not sure if you guys remember, but the Jaguar CX-75 was available in a DLC pack for NFS Rivals, and quite frankly I loved it.
I also believe the Toyota FT-1 will be making an appearance in Gran Turismo but I'm not sure
2) CUSTOMIZATION AND UPGRADES
I might get a lot of hate for this but hear me out please.
I absolutely loved the customization options in Most Wanted 2005, all of which were expanded upon in NFS Carbon. In fact my favorite part of Carbon was the plethora of customization options.
I remember one of the Body Kits for the Lamborghini Murcielago had 4 elevated exhaust pipes, the thing looked like a freakin' Batmobile.
And I think that's one of the things that made the whole customization thing so appealing. It wasn't JUST FOR TUNER cars, you had so many options for Mustangs, Gallardos and Supras, what I mean is that you had the option to customize ALL CARS, and if you didn't want to you absolutely did not have to.
That's what I really want to come back, the option to customize to your heart's content.
In terms of performance upgrades, that would also be very welcome. A simple system like the one from Most Wanted and Carbon, or perhaps a very in dept one like in Forza Horizon (please don't hate me for mentioning other games, lol this is the only example that came to mind)
3) A mixed map
What I mean by this is a variety of environments.
I loved the Urban sprawl of Most Wanted and Carbon, weaving and driving through narrow downtown streets and industrial complexes, shortcuts and alternate routes everywhere.
I also however, loved the vast open areas found in Hot Pursuit 2010 and Rivals, a place where you could push hypercars to their absolute limits.
We've seen proof that size isn't a big issue when it comes to a map, just look at The Crew.
So why not make a vast map with a healthy mix of both environments?
The race events could be restricted if there's an issue of some cars being outclassed in certain environments (I don't know, just throwing ideas around)
The game itself should be open world and perhaps be filled with hidden collectibles, such as high-performance parts that aren't available for regular purchase in upgrade shops (again, just an idea).
4) An intriguing or at least an exciting story
Keep in mind this is not an absolute necessity, as gameplay and content should take precedence over everything else, but a coherent and memorable story would be very nice.
It could honestly be about anything, as long as it makes the player feel like a total badass. Need for Speed is about being a mad outlaw, or to quote Most Wanted, "The most notorious".
What do you guys think a good story would be?
5) The developer's 110% effort
This part may be getting a little sentimental, but I feel like I should say it.
I'm a relatively young gamer, and I didn't really get to play much of Underground or Underground 2. In fact my first NFS game was Hot Pursuit 2 for PC (the one with the yellow Murcielago on the cover)
That's why I've been mentioning Most Wanted and Carbon so much, I grew up with those games.
The fact is, I love Need for Speed, I like it more than the other established racing franchises. While I appreciate games like Forza and Gran Turismo, there's just a special charm about NFS that makes it so appealing.
Perhaps it's the ridiculous driving, over the top (sometimes even unrealistic) action sequences, or maybe just the sheer excitement.
I just want the developer, whoever it is (Black Box, Ghost, Criterion, etc.) to really try to make the best NFS game ever, because that's what this series deserves.
I might get some hate for this, but I actually liked Hot Pursuit 2010, Most Wanted 2012 and Rivals.
Maybe it's just me, but I look forward to every NFS game (except Shift, it tried way too hard to be a simulation racer and not what NFS should be).
I play the crap out of them, and I really do enjoy them, despite their faults. You could call me a fanboy, but I keep to myself and don't force my opinions on everyone else. I like Need for Speed, that's really just it.
Oh, and one major reason I loved Rivals, was because it hailed the return of Ferrari to the series :)
That's really all I have to say guys. Like I mentioned earlier, this is meant to be an open discussion. Do you agree/disagree with my ideas and why?
What would you like to see? What is your ideal NFS game?
I will kindly respect all of your opinions, don't be afraid to mention anything you want.
