Microsoft still ahead in the race, but the gap is closing.

Okay, so as of today that is the 23.08.2013 Microsoft has changed their policies in many instances .But what they have changed is, Ill be surprised if you havent come across these in the internet in the last few weeks. They are

1. The Xboxone will no longer need to be connected to the internet 24x7

2. Users can exchange their games without any restrictions

3. The Xboxone no longer needs kinect to be connected to be used.

4. Headset will be bundled up with the console.

From IGN to 9gag to Facebook to twitter the reaction to the console war has been phenomenal. Totally opposite to Microsofts initial policies, Sony with their PS4 had announced the above policies in this years E3 convention itself.  This started a wild reaction by the dedicated gamers in the internet; praising Sony and frowning at Microsoft. I will explain later on this blog why i used the term 'dedicated gamers' instead of average consumers.

A recent poll which I read (I cant remember where) showed that even the hardcore Xbox fans preferred the ps4. with these kind of articles and massive out lash on Microsoft  prevailing in the internet the casual internet surfers' and the dedicated gamers' mindset will be that Microsoft is going to be crushed this time in the console market specially with the Xboxone priced at 499$ and the ps4 at 399$. But what they fail to grasp is that these are posts and reactions are by 'dedicated gamers'-people who spend their free free time on researching video games and consoles and who have time to post articles relating to such topic in the internet. Not by the ordinary consumer.

Okay before I get to my point here are some facts you should know

Number of Xbox360 sold in USA     -25.4 mil.

Number of PS3 sold in USA           - 13.4 mil.

Number of Xbox360 sold Worldwide-79 mil.

Number of PS3 sold Worldwide      - 75 mil.

Another thing worth mentioning is in my point of view is that the neither the Xboxone nor the ps4 is cheap. There both equally poised in terms of price. You see what many forget is that the Xboxone comes with a device which enables you to play wireless...controller less..., yeah it comes with the kinect, whereas the ps4 doesnt offer any means of gaming apart from the joystick based ones. So I would say 100$ for the modified version of the kinect which we are currently using is a fair bargain. This would be a major factor to the average consume when deciding which console to buy although the hardcore gamers find it less exciting.

A thing which I have noticed is that many people tend to upgrade from their current device to the latest device form their current device manufacturer-given that the new device is what was expected. The main reason for this is that the user would experience many hardships if the transformation from one manufacturer to another took place. For an example, you dont see an iphone4 user switching to an S3; the user will most probably switch to a 4S. The main reason being that he wont be able use the special feature provided by apple to connect with his/her friends who already use the apple. This is the same the other way around. If a S2 user switches to a 4S rather than switching to a S3 he/she wont be able to transfer data or connect via bluetooth with his/her friends because they still will be using the samsung products. So the same applies to Gaming consoles. Many people are going to upgrade their experience. They are not going to switch from one Microsoft to Sony. Im not saying that everyone will stay with the same company which manufactured their current console. There will be a few who will want a different experience, but there wont be many. Therefore i would like to call this phenomenon 'No change behavior'

The dedicated gamer might be willing to give up his/her favorite franchises (halo.gears of war, etc) and face the tedious procedure of switching manufacturers. But the average consumer wouldnt. The average consumer will want to play games with the friends he already made. The average consumer will want to transfer his contents from his older console to his new one with just a flick of a button. The average consumer wouldnt to step out of his comfort for the sole reason of what the internet thinks. another point worth mentioning is most of the consumers purchase a gaming console to play the CODs and FIFAs and NFSs and not the franchise games unique to the consoles.

You can see your Aunt and Uncle falling for this one.

You can see your Aunt and Uncle falling for this picture.

Most of you will accept the following. Practically and logically speaking, the number average consumers (the dads, the casual gamers, the small kids, the moms, the uncle who wants to by a gift for his niece, etc) are way higher than the dedicated gamers. So with all the policy reversals the Microsoft is still in the race. As stated above the number of xbox360s sold is higher than ps3s. Taking this in to account and the 'No change behavior' I can safely say that Microsoft is still ahead in the console race. Microsoft could also rope in the Wii fanatics with the Kinect. (Also taking into consideration the free FIFA copy to the European gamer and 'TITANFALL')

But one can argue stating that the pre order records. If you dont know it is stated that the ratio of number of preordered console between xboxone and ps4 is 1:4. If you also thought of this just give more thought to it. Who do you think pre orders consoles, dedicated gamers or average consumers? Dedicated gamers of course. With the recent policies and tactics followed by Sony it is right on track. Because of the recent procedures taken forth by them they have won the hearts of many dedicated gamers which means Microsoft could see many of their dedicated gamers moving to Sony. So with all these taken in to consideration:

One could say that Microsoft is still ahead in the race, But not by far. The gap is closing, closing fast. With Sony on the right track and Microsoft trying to make amends we only can sit and watch for what hold of the future for these two tech giants. Oh yeah. This goes without saying Nintendo is safely in the third position. No arguments there.

10 lessons a gamer learnt- 2012

Okay guys. At the end of 2012 i came across all kinds of stuffs on the internet. As a gamer what does an end of a year really mean? Is it really limited to only giving awards-Best game of 2012, best shooter and so on (not that Im insulting those who do).what else does is it mean. Ive given a lot of thought about this question. As I thought what is end. End means past, past has many things we leave behind. But we take only two in to the future which is memories and lessons.so from the memories of 2012 i'm putting out some lessons i learnt. Playing over 30+ AAA games and a handful of indie games i have picked out 10 important lessons that i learnt this year as a gamer and how i came to learn it and why it is mentioned here. So here it goes(pls dont go mad bcuz of my mispelled words)

knowing that what you do is right but others say your failing?doesnt matter keep doing it

***************************************************************************************************
Have you done a good thing and not been appreciated for it. or worse have you got blamed for it as a bad thing by another guy.in this scenario you wont continue to do the 'good thing' you would say go to hell(or worse) and go away. But 30 studios did the opposite they created a gem of game called KINGDOMS OF AMALUR (which did not perform as expected in the market) which gamespot gave it a 7.5 and ign gave it 9.0.so as you all know even though 30 studios created a rpg game orth cherishing it was closed for a lot of reasons which iassume youll already know.until the end the 30 studios didnt give up you sholdnt either.
another company worth mentioning here is THQ.As you know THQ has flled for bankruptcy i hope studios with great potentail and success like VIGIlL doesnt get affected by this(damn you pirates ;) )

May you rise again dragonslayer

#8 Life is full of dissapointments.you just need to keep going.

********************************************************************************************
gamers faced many dissaointments in 2012.medal of honour warfighter was one such game.this game as a massive dissapoitment to MOH fans(and a great one for COD freaks) .i dont know about youll but for me AC 3 was more or less a dissapointment. It just didnt live up to its expectations everyone had.The other game related to this lesson is Bioshock Infinite.all bioshock fans were eager to play this game this year only to face dissapointment after dissapoint with dates getting pushed.i just hope the game lives up for the hype its making.
eventhough ith all these dissapointments faced im sure anybody didnt give up gaming ,im sutre any fan didnt give up there favourrite franchise there just hoping the next one will be better.this what you should do in life also. i kno life could have many **** ,mind bogling dissapointments you should never loose ope you should keep going.

lets hope for the best

#7 INNOVATION IS ONE OF THE KEYS TO SUCCESS

**********************************************************************************************
which game released in 2012 stands out as an innovative game. There are many anwers for it like spelunky, journey, hot line miami.what does these games have in common?.thats right they are all indie games. for t last 10 minutes i tried to come up with a AAA game which is innovative but i think there arent any AAA gmaes which stands out as innovative game.Midst all these advertisment and hype from huge distributors how does an indie game like journey become a success?INNOVATION thats the main reason. thats the reason why journey went on to be a commercial and critical success.that is also the reason why it won the best game of the year in the 2012 spike video game awards.

#6 Hard work really pays off(you should just know when to cash it in)

*************************************************************************************************
okay.i know you would have listened to this a thousand times or more but its actually true.DISHONOURED a contender for many awards this year as all gamers who played this would say that this game is simply epic. But did you know it nearly took ARCANE studios THREE years to finsh making the game.phew! I mean that of hard work they guys at arcane studios put in has payed off. Another game worth mentioning which iknow wasreleased in 2011 and has a sequel in the making is DARK SOULS.the warnings you get before playing this game in the internet is hust not enough man.this game too brutal ut if try hard and work hard finishing this game will be a milestone for you not only as a gamer but as a person who never loses his self confidence.
So this year CORVO and the undead tought me hard work never fails.so for those who out there who have never gazed upon success or who wants to hard work is just for you. Speaking of spike awardds I should also mention that HALF LIFE 2 won the game of the decade award, the GAME wich was in production for 6 YEARS.

DUTY COMES FIRST
************************************************************************************************
As i mentioned above some of the 30+ AAA games i played are MAX PAYNE 3,DISHONOURED,COD:BLACK OPS 2(and all the other shooters).what all these games have in common other than guns is men who dedicate themselves for their responsibilities and duties knowing that at any moment they should give the ultimate sacrifice, their lives.MAX PAYNE & DISHONOURED share more or less the same theme. where the protagonist has the responsibility of protecting the family of his employer. For max its a family in seo paulo and for corvo its the royal famil of dawnguard(im nt sure).these men go to great heights from rigging a building with explosives to possesing a rat to acheive it.
