@j3diknightdave: i disagree. It is better to buy what you need right now. If you get into game development or mods later, you could always change your equipment or buy something else.
Also, i would not exactly describe PS4 as obsolete just because PS4 pro launches. Both consoles played the same games, and some players might not even feel the need to spend extra money for 4K. It also depends on your tv. I never bought the Xbox One X, i used played on the Xbox One and later when i had some technical difficulties with it i got the Xbox Series S which was cheaper. But my tv was not 4K so it would not be reasonable for me to get the Xbox One X anyway. It depends on what you have and your situation.
(Side note: Investing in tech and investing in the future ar rarely the same things since tech is one of the things which drops fastest in price. If you want an investment which pays off in the future, invest in real estate. Just saying. :) But since a house or an apartment is not exactly cheap, it is not an option for everyone.
Unless it is some kind of rare old game. Then the game could be worth a lot more in the future. :) )
Sure, spend more money later, than you would have just buying whatever in the first place.
and
Lol, who the F*ck ever mentioned real estate, besides you?! We WERE talking about PCs and consoles... More particular, investing in hardware, not houses and apartments. haha
Also, going by today's standards, not only is a ps4 (and for that matter ps4 pro) obsolete, Unless you didn't have the money, Who the hell wouldn't buy a PS5 or build a pc, over a ps4/pro?... and on that note, depending on how much money you spend, and what your primary use is for (i.e work) a PC is FAR more of an investment, than any console being made, or made within the last 30 years.
@lonewolf1044: Yeah upgrades are fine if you want to get into the whole hardware upgrade thing but i think upgrading hardware could get quite expensive if you do it every year compared to a console which you buy once in every 5 years.
But of course the best thing is to buy both consoles and a powerful pc as well. I tend to buy consoles, they are cheaper and have exclusive games i do not want to miss out on. A pc which you upgrade often could be very expensive for just hardware. Unless you sell every component except for the newest one,t hen it might be a bit less expensive. But i do not think i would like to change GPU every year, it costs quite a bit. It depends on how picky you are as well with hardware.
only cows upgrade their pc every year, or right when new hardware is released. The norm for most PC users (imo) is 3 to 5 years, and usually only the gpu needs to be upgraded (eventually)
@j3diknightdave: Yeah of course but most people tend to have a PC in one shape or form anyway which just is not gaming pc. My very cheap 2000 SEK portable pc with only around 64 GB storage could do most things i wanted. But it was not great for games.
So when you compare it just for the games then it is quite different. A portable pc has its own screen and keyboard too so you get both hardware and a built in screen an portability. A stationary PC does not have it but it usually has more power.
I suppose if you want to do mods or game development then a pc might be better. Not everyone is into such things. But if someone is then he/she should go with the pc.
Just because someone may not be in to those type of things now, doesn't mean they won't later, and its better to invest for the future, than waste your money on some console that can't do half what an actual PC can, and is going to be obsolete, when the new/slimmer version is release (usually a third or half way thru its life cycle)
Plan and simple, PC is always the better investment, whether for gaming or for work... as for price, If Sony does try to increase prices, it most likely will be by $50-$100, Because they want to stay competitive, and they as well as MS know anything over $500, the margin of people that can afford, or willing to pay more than said $500 for a gaming console, starts to fall off a cliff... especially when the consumer can spend $500 to $800, build their own pc (or have one built for them) and have the same experience or better, with more options.
@simonthekid7: even if your right... I would rather spend $800 on a pc, than $500+ on some piece of shit console, any day of the week... That can do far more than said console (being able to use mods in my games, and tweak gfx settings alone is worth $800 to me, not to mention actual internet browsing, Photoshop, video editing ect, granted you won't probably be doing much content creating on a budget PC, but at least its there if you wanna dabble)
Well... Sony should "rule out" increasing the price, because i guarantee Microsoft will keep their price, the same or may even decrease their price, to be competitive.
Also, anything over $500 for a console isn't logical (IMO) once you start going higher than that, It's better just to build a low/mid tier PC, that will outperform whatever hardware a console will currently offer.
Seeing on how Episode 9, and especially Episode 10 were a bit shitty (goes double for episode 10) I'm hoping the final 3 episodes come and go out STRONG!
We need this for the last episodes of the series. (no more duds)
