I thought the Source SDK/map editor was easy to work with, you should check on some instructional videos off of the internet to get you started(google for them some are really helpfull).

yea moding takes a lot of time, experience, and skill.

unless you're just wanting to creat your own amature maps, skins, models, or whatever, You'll need a team to make a full blown mod.

This post is from someone who does not own Vista like me. :D Steampowered.com has a trouble shoot page that will tell you if you can run their games on Vista.

 Even so it's your problem, i've never had these issues with performance and sound so it must depend on your system.
