Games weren't anymore epic back in the day, people were just impressed when games gave users a better experience no matter if it's graphics that didn't look like crap or the ability to add voice acting and cutscenes to games that looked like what we saw on TV
Haha yeah i know but i mean in general, the gameplay for zelda kicked major butt. The story in the earlier final fantasy games and metal gear solid was astonishing. Like a few of you have already mentioned there are still some epic games, they just don't seem to be as many as there was say 10+ years ago.
Is it just me or have games really lost that epic feel?
When i was growing up and playing on the classic zelda's, final fantasies and even metal gear solid i would get engrossed in the story, setting and gameplay for weeks if not months. Nowadays it just seems that games are made purely for adrenaline junkies, no game has the ability to suck me in for hours on end anymore.
The problem with the comparison between FFVII and MGS is that it overly specializes - while it doesn't compare them functionally as games, it just focuses on the storytelling aspect. DarkCatalyst
FFVII and MGS combined gameplay and storytelling perfectly, they didn't over specialise in my opinion.
Sonic and Mario have never really been known for their unique story telling. However, they have solid gameplay (Mario mainly) which more than makes up for it.
Personally, i don't think we will see games remotely close to the epicness of the MGS series or classic FF's for a long time to come
Ok, so i downloaded the new ultimate team and everytime i go to play it my xbox freezes. I then have to go back to the dashboard and start over which is a right pain in the ass (been trying for an hour now).
