I really hope they do NOT remake FFVII.
The main reason that I hope it doesn't get remade is this: Too many people want it to be something it wasn't.
The graphics for it's day were superb. It revolutionized the series, both in technologically and storytelling. Now however, with all of the modern advances; the graphics won't be the only thing to change.
I've read MANY posts about this subject, and the same thing is said in every one of them: "I hope they do something more with..." -And that's the problem. People aren't happy with what it WAS when compared with what IS now. Most people can look back and say that they loved FFVII, and that it's one of their favorites "of all time", however some of those same people want MORE: More with the battle system, more of the story, more weapons, abilities, armor, summons, etc etc etc... more more more. A tweak here, a modification there, and pretty soon - It's not FFVII anymore. It becomes... FFVII-2.
If the ONLY thing to change would be a graphics upgrade, then it would be worth-while, however knowing the gaming industry and how they typically cater to the whiners (I'm sorry, but they do), I doubt it'll end with graphics.
Being of an older generation of gamers I'll stick with the original, and look forward to new games in the series.

The resident evil remake is the perfect example on how to remake a game right. There's alot changes (new puzzles, new enemies, new items and the level design is almost completely new) but it's still RE and it's a better game because of those changes. This is how square should do the FFVII remake and not just a graphics upgrade like the crappy MGS remake.
