You really dont' have to play the other games, I guess. Chronologically, mgs 3 should be the first one to come....I think. But, the others are still great to play. Yes, even the PS Metal Gear games. If you don't, then you can't truly appreciate the story line. Besides, if you don't want to play the rest of the games, then why even bother playing this one? it's like watching only the 3rd movie of a trilogy simply because you don't want to watch the first two. Lame, but then again, it's your call not mine.
Actually, yes, the PS3 is 600 bucks, BUT. It's not like people aren't going to buy games or any accessories for it when you buy it. Come on! By the time you buy an HDMI cable (the good one costs $99) and a couple of games at 60 bucks a piece, plus the extra controller, you'll find yourself hitting the 4 digit mark at checkout. But you get what you pay for.
Ok, here's the thing about the PS3 controller. The life of the battery is about 24 hours, depending on how many hours in a row you play it. But trust me, it won't run out on you quickly. Besides, you can always press & hold the PS button and it will show you the controller you're using, and it's battery life in the bottom left of the screen. There can be up to 7 controllers, each one indicated by the lights that are turned on the controller. You know...the ones that are by the L1 button. Oh, and when the battery is extremely low a light will flash, depending on the number controller that you have. Both the 20 and 60 gig versions come with only 1 controller.
