To level up on GameSpot, simply:
SPEND TIME ON HERE
- Watch Videos
- Download Videos
- Look for Walkthroughs
- Research Games
- Read Reviews
- Write Quality Reviews
- Post
- Fill out your Profile
- Make a Blog
- Cruise the Forums
- Look at the Previews
- Read the latest Gaming News
- Look at the Newest Releases
So in short you're seeing just spending time on GameSpot contributes to your level growth. There is no one way to level up faster
Though some may say that posting helps you so you should post a lot....don't listen. Posting does help, but in extremly little, little doses. It takes some people 10 minutes to make 20 posts, but that doesn't equal the time it takes others to read the news, watch a video, or do something else. get the picture?
You can go backwards or even be reset back to level 1...if you're moderated (you can lose points).
Please keep in mind that your level will only level up ONCE a day, it's not automatic all day long for when you're on.
What you get when you reach certain levelsonly applies to non subscribers)
Level 3: Post comments on News Articles (not 100% sure yet)
Level 3: a Sig (picture/gif/jpeg), reader review posting
Level 3: Able to use HTML and BBcode.
Level 5: make a Poll in certain boards
Level 6: make a union
Level 10: upload a video in your blog

The Level 6 Glitch:
It has been noted that recent users have completely skipped level 6. It is not known how long this will continue.
The Level 16 - 20 Glitch, Also, back to level 1 Glitch:
Once you get to around level 16, it is possible to jump up an entire level and some points. It has been recorded that users will go from level 16 - 17 or 17 -18 or even 18 - 19 in one day. These jumps in levels are common and are usually preparing you for the level 20 glitch. Once you reach level 20 you usually gain a maximum of 2% points per day. It is not uncommon for a user to take up to 3 months or more just to get through level 20. The number of points gained returns to normal once you have passed level 20.
The back to level 1 glitch is a small mistake made by the level server. nothing to worry about. This fixes itself and your level will go back to normal.
Notification of moderation resulting in "point loss":
fiddlecub wrote:As far as how points work, it is a mystery to all but those that established the requirements. Users earn points that contribute to their levels by using different parts of the GameSpot site, including the forums, and they lose points by receiving moderations. The details are unknown, even to moderators.
LOEAnubis wrote:They are what makes your level go up. Losing points will stunt that growth.
In other words... only the GS Admins know what points are and how they add to your percentage gain. By losing points, your percentage will increase at a slower rate... the amount is unknown except to GS Administrators. You don't actually lose %, it means you will gain % at a slower rate compared to someone else who didn't lose "points".
What is the maximum % I can get each day towards my level?
