Radiohead "In Rainbows" Review

I don't know what it is with Radiohead? The first day I listened to the MP-3 of "In Rainbows" in my car I hated it. Each song just kind of came and went without any major changes in tempo, rhythm or anything that moved me. Then, for some reason I woke up with "Strange Fishes" in my head. Then I put it in again and suddenly I found several songs that just yesterday I did not like, and now like a flash of lighting, I love. Small things that I did not hear, tonal differences, small sounds, quiet guitar riffs, base rhythmus, drum patters, children cheering in the distance, things that I could not hear yesterday were exposed. Now I can't wait to listen again to here more of what I may have missed. Radiohead does this too me every time. Unlike many records by artists thatat first listen I lovethen slowly grow tired of(Anything by Pearl Jam for example), Radiohead grows with each listen. Even as far back as OK Computer, I had the album 6 months before I realized it was the best album in a generation. 'Kid A' was a mess of sounds and noise in my head for days until I finally got it, and now I can't miss it. Radiohead songs that I hate become my favorites. It is like the stupid "Magic Eye" books that were big years ago. when you first looked at them all you could see was a jumble of colors and shapes, but once you tuned you're eyes to look deeper you could see the picture. That is Radiohead for me. That being said, some people could never see the picture no matter how hard they tried, that is why Radiohead just does not work for some people (most people I talk to don't like Thom's voice, which is understandable, if a little shortsighted). But if you are patent enough to train you're ears to listen to Radiohead most people will be rewarded with a sonic picture that makes sense. And that is what makes Radiohead great to me, its like they create a picture in my head with their music that each time I listen to adds another color that I did not see before.
