OTOH I'm still glad I saw this because I checked my XSX and even with a 16 TB HDD attached I'm at over 50% use of the internal SSD since I set the XSX up on December 27, 2020. So now I'll definitely have to watch for deals on this.
I wonder how long the exclusive Seagate deal will last for?
@yankeeallstars: Benchmarking works by putting both things being tested under the same conditions. So yeah running UNoptimized games on both consoles is a fair and valid comparison.
@face76: It doesn't matter how fast an SSD is; latency makes it MUCH slower than RAM. Sony has only talked about SSD speed, not latency. Gaming will always be RAM, GPU, and CPU dominated. The only thing storage drives affect is how fast games load *before* you play and between levels.
@rodoxthedark: Yeah. So many people on here keep talking about how PS5 got beat in load times with it's "super fast ssd" but, that is without them understanding that these are not next gen games made for the new M.2. At some point the SSD can be too fast which can cause loading bottlenecks for older games.
What are you talking about? The PS5's onboard SSD isn't an M.2 drive.
@nomadie: They made it seem like their SSD gave them an advantage when it clearly doesn't ... which literally everyone who knows how computers work knew from the start.
@Bamda: Playing an outdated version of a game is worse. I fired up Onrush recently and was wondering why a bunch of the options were missing. When I was done playing I realized there was an update in the background.
