Gears of War now...

After several months of game play (or lack thereof), I have found the controls to be slow and unresponsive compared to better shooters such as Rainbow Six: Vegas. The co-op is still some of the best and most fun with a friend, but the online play leaves a lot to be desired. Its a game I wish I would have rented, but I still play with friends online. The graphics are amazing and the story is pretty good, but the replay is limited because its predictable. An enhanced AI in the sequel could help break the monotony. The cover system is great in theory, but they could take a lesson from Rainbow. As far as the online options go, a few more game types (perhaps something along the lines of Rainbow's terrorist hunts or the like) would improve it dramatically. It would also be helpful to smooth out the gameplay and eliminate some of the cut scene lag.

Gears of War then...

Wow! If this isn't the coolest game there is, then someone needs to step up and enlighten me. I am absolutely blown away by the graphics, game play and co-op! Unbelievable!!! The graphics rival Oblivion in lush quality and detail (though I still think Oblivion is the best looking game ever, hence the independently moving foliage). The unique style of gameplay and the need for cover make it very interesting, very un-halo-like (run and gunners beware) and more realistic. The co-op is amazingly diverse, with the ability to start a campaign, invite your friends to join you or have a friend over to play split screen and you never lose a beat. The ability to seamlessly switch is something I've never seen. Also, the online multiplayer plays and moves exactly like the campaign, plus I've noticed very little lag. I played last night with EPICCliffyB (the game's lead designer) and was treated to the knowledge that three more significantly larger and lusher multiplayer maps will be added to the Xbox Live marketplace by the first of the year. Hell, yeah! All in all, it is the best game I have ever played and would highly recommend it to everyone. :)

Test Drive Unlimited

Wow! What a cool game. Its what they call an "MOOG" (Massively Open Online Game), very similar to an mmog, except there's not quite as many people as in FFXI. Yet, there are a whole lot of people on the island simultaneously. There is so much to do and see, its unbelievable. You have the entire island of Oahu (and then some) to drive and explore with the ability to challenge anyone you happen across. The driving action is the best I've seen since Forza, and for all intents and purposes is a much better game in my opinion. There are maybe a few less cars available, yet there are plenty of cool rides to choose from. At present, I own about 60 cars and motorcycles with more available which I intend to acquire.

The only draw backs so far are the silly noobs who try to challenge people who happen to be in inferior rides. (e.g.- some jerk challenged me in his Enzo Ferrari when I was driving a "D" class Mustang...) Yeah, that's not happening:) Also, some idiots have figured out a modem glitch similar to that in Halo 2, which allows them ungodly times in the multiplayer challenges. (I refuse to sink to their level.) You can choose not to do that crap and still have quite a good time.

Other than that, its one of the truly fun games available for the 360. Its replay value alone makes it well worth the $40 + tax that it cost me. I would recommend this game to all my friends and anyone else who asks.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted

I was amazed at how cool this game actually is. I played the demo, and was very iffy about it. So iffy, in fact, that I waited until recently to buy it because it was a steal ($30) at a local used record store. I wish I would have bought it sooner, because it is truly entertaining and awesome. If you are looking for something fun to rent or buy, definately try this out.

COD2 idea

You know what would fix the sniper problem? An update allowing private servers to choose the available weapons. Problem solved... People who wish to use such things could while those who wish to leave them out of the mix may also do so... Something to think about.

Call of Duty 2

There are some pretty bad ass players at COD2. However, there are a lot of cheap ass scope-using, non-game having bums infesting the game. Using the sniper in single player is not only useful, but downright necessary at times. Yet, it does not translate to anything other than I can't hit **** in a multi-player game without it. First of all, the hit box is huge (alot bigger than in single player). You don't even need to have the crosshairs on target, as long as you're close. That doesn't fly single player. Second, the breath movement in multiplayer isn't nearly as intense, making it twice as easy to use (give or take). Third, its used on the smallest of maps (e.g.-Vossenach ) making it way cheaper. And finally, there is a glitch involved (ala the huge hit box) that when you quickly pull the left trigger followed by the right, people drop dead without actually getting hit.

People would make the game a lot more interesting and challenging if they reach down and grab a pair... Learn to shoot with a real weapon. Don't rely on glitches and 10X magnification all of the time... food for thought.
