Gonna have to say the Monkey Island series, man I wish they'd make another one of those. Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango are also awsome. What happened Lucasarts...

The problem with making PC game copy protections like this is that they'll just get cracked anyway. Sure, it might take a few weeks, maybe even months, but it's bound to happen. There's no such thing as "uncrackable" protection, people will always find a way. In the end, the only people benefitting from these situations are the people who actually develop and sell the copy protection. Also, sometimes overly ambitious copy protection can screw up stuff in your computer. Especially when it involves files that can't be deleted and third party drivers and what not (SecuROM and Starforce are two prime examples of this).

For me, the writing really carried the game. Without all the great dialogue I probably wouldn't like it nearly as much. It'd still be an awsome game though.

Anyway, here's the parts I've chosen for my new PC (All prices in $AUD):

Logitech Speakers Z-4 - $115.00 from Austin

Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB-Kit, 5-5-5-12 - $89.59 from Austin

Abit IP35-Pro Socket 775 Motherboard - 198.10 from VTech

Liteon DVD-ReWriter, 20A1S - $43.00 from Austin

XpertVision nVidia GeForce 8800GT 1GB (Chose this for the dual slot cooler, not the memory) - $375.90 from VTech

Viewsonic VA2226W 22" - $295 from NetPlus

Logitech MX3200 Cordless Desktop - $129 from NetPlus

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU - $249 from NetPlus

Cooler Master Dominator 690 Case with 460W PSU (Cooler Master eXtreme Power) - $158.13 from Austin

Samsung 400Gb 7200 rpm SATA II 300 HDD - $114.80 from VTech

Total Cost - $1777.52

So basically I was just hoping if I could get any advice on this, any at all. Whether you can help me spend save some money (due to my really really low income, a saving of...well anything, is appreciated), recommend better parts, give me some overclocking tips, point out things I may have overlooked or simply just want to add your opinion, all help is appreciated. If you can recommend a monitor, I'd prefer it if it were at least 20".

A few specific questions I have are:

1.Do I need to get a better power supply? Or will the included one suffice (I'm pretty sure its the one I've linked to).

2.Is the RAM ok? I don't really intend to overclock it much so should should I go for a cheaper brand (Kingston RAM, same speed, timings is only $69 I think), or get a kit with faster timings (if so, which brand/model)?

3.If my motherboard comes with an older BIOS that does not support the new 45nm processor, will my system still POST with the new processor in it so that I can flash the BIOS to a version that does support the new chips? This is important because I don't have another LGA775 processor that I can put in the system to flash the BIOS with.

So thats basically it. I hope this thread can help people in a similar situation to mine. And thanks in advance to everyone who helps.

Hi, I was hoping I could get some people's advice on a gaming rig I intend to build pretty soon. I have most of the parts finalized, just thought I could use some input from others who probably have more experience than me. First off, this is going to be an entirely new rig, everything needs to be bought, that means speakers, keyboard/mouse, monitor, case, motherboard, etc. I'm trying to keep this rig below $1800AUD although if it turns out that I really need to spend more, I'm definately willing. I do intend to overclock this PC, not heavily however. I'll be extremely happy if I can get the processor (an E8400) running at around 3.6-3.8 Ghz on stock cooling without too much effort. As time goes on however, I might buy a third party CPU cooler, and so I could use some recommendations there since I have no idea what a good brand/price is.

I live in Perth, Western Australia and currently I'm purchasing all my parts locally from the following stores:

NetPlus Micro Computers - http://www.netplus.com.au/

Austin Computers - http://www.austin.net.au

VTech Industries - http://www.vtechindustries.com.au

If anyone has any recommendations on places to buy computer parts, I'd love to hear them. Preferably stores located in WA, although if shipping isn't too expensive (i.e. the total price ends up being cheaper than the stores I've mentioned) I'm willing to buy outside of WA (but not internationally). Also I'm kinda trying to stay away from eBay, mainly because I've had a few bad experiences.

(Continued on next post. Won't let me post the whole thing)

Isn't that just one of the Ageia PhysX demos? I remember seeing that when the cards were first released.

Mafia was a really good game, but my favourites would probably be the Monkey Island games and Grim Fandango.

Also, in my opinion, the Godfather game wasn't nearly as good as Mafia, but definately had a lot more action.
