Valve is still actively supporting Counter-Strike well after the release of Counter-Strike: Source. If you think Valve is suddenly going to stop supporting Left 4 Dead just because a sequel's coming out, think again. That's now how Valve operates.LordAndrew
You are incorrect. The last time valve did a somewhat significant update to counter-strike was December of 2006. But that's not the point. The point is that they mentioned they had been working to put out Left 4 Dead 2 since launch. They literally promised that many of the missing features within the first game would be added as downloadable content(which is nothing new for the pc industry, downloadable content has always been free because you are often using their game servers instead of microsoft or playstation's servers). So, please no one try and say I should be thankful that we even got anything for free, if any of you, ANY of you, know anything about PC gaming, then you would know free downloads is something we not only expect, it's something we demand. Since they have been working on this game since launch, that would have easily slowed down any sort of production they could have accomplished for the game, which hasn't been much. They have released a small beta of the SDK, which was one feature I along with many other players waited patiently for, but now that it is here, the game has not even been updated to support it. Why has it not been updated? Well it could be many reasons, but Valve unfortunately has shown themselves unavailable to the average gamer since they got their hands on the significant money that L4D got them. I along with many others used my money to buy the game looking to the future in hope that the game would not only continue to renew my interests, but in hopes that it would continue to deliver on valve's promises. They have done no such thing, so no, I don't think they will continue to update the game. After they get money for their next game, what's to keep them updating their game? And I do not think it is silly at all to boycott a product, especially us PC gamers boycotting their product. We have always been their #1 support, so if that support is gone, I could foreseeably see Valve checking in and making a compromise. Since when was boycotting something a terrible use of our time? If any of you really felt you could make a difference, I think you'd do the same in many situations. The average consumers are too used to being treated as a pure number, and not as an individual, and I think if many saw themselves as an individual in the company's eyes, they would work to promote better quality in products. What's wrong with demanding better quality? Last time I looked competition among products helped quality raise, and this is no different, this could only help to get Valve aware of their actions and give us better quality as a whole.
