The question I raise is has the Wii indeed changed the gaming industry as we know it. I remember when the Playstation came out worldwide and the impact it had on consumers because of its introduction to 3-D gaming. The Nintendo 64 also had a big impact with its revolutionary games such as Golden Eye and Mario 64. The Playstation 2 Gamecube and Xbox..(dont forget the DreamCast).. expanded this aspect of gaming and most of these suceeded in bringing in tons of gamers.
But all revolutionary gaming consoles (in my "expert" opnion xD) have changed more than in the appearance factor. The Playstation looked excellent for the time that it was released (Jet Moto, Metal Gear Solid, Croc...xD all my favorites). But is the look of the games what made it popular..? I dont think so. I think that the change from 2-d to 3-d gaming gave Sony the Edge on this console war...and Sony did the transition from 2-d to 3-d the best. (nintendo was a close second)
The Playstation, Xbox and Gamecube, (dreamcast also..sorry sega)..were great console..but were they revolutionary..NO!!..They expanded a know concept and introduced little to the gaming industry except Stupid Console cameras..(Online Play was a Great Addition to most consoles..but this concept was introduced back in the days of the Sega Genesis..believe it or not...)
Revolutionary consoles in my opnion are...Atari Original,Colecovision,Snes, Gameboy, Playstation, and the DS..(the PSP would be Revolutionary if it didnt have such long load times...). Some Honorable mention consoles are the Sega Genesis, DreamCast and the Original Xbox (the original Xbox was Heavy into the Online Experience so it gets a thumbs UP from me..=) )
These consoles changed something about gaming...like...having 3-d graphics..being portable..having color....having a Dual Screen..
The Wii should be in this list because it changes the Mold of Gaming. It introduces the Wii-Mote which operates unlike any other thing that has been introduced into gaming..While its graphics are no where near "revolutionary" (they look great though...dont believe me go to Nintendo World Store in New York and See them...I dont know what everyone is saying but they look awesome...)....but the Wii has permantly changed the gaming industry for the better...and I await its release Nov 19th...2006...12:00....in my tent...at Gamestop...
