Nintendo vs Sony
by jmalo1 on Comments
Well, I haven't posted here in a while. I've just been playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. It's kind of ironic since this blog post is titled "Nintendo vs. Sony". Anyways, I've been reading a lot of articles lately about the NGP and 3DS and how the 3DS is failing and the NGP is going to double as a PS3 controller, etc. I have also been reading the comments and people are saying things like "Sony's copying nintendo again" "3DS sucks" etc. The funny thing is, it's Nintendo's own fault that Sony made the Playstation. Back in the days of the NES, Nintendo and Sony had a deal to make a CD-ROM for their next console, the SNES. The console was revealed, but soon after, Nintendo announced that it was breaking the partnership with Sony and partnering with Phillips instead. Sony went on to make the Playstation, and Phillips decided to go and make the CDi without Nintendo. Since then, Nintendo and Sony (as well as some companies like Sega that died out) have been competing in the gaming industry. Now the question is, who is the better company? Well, they develop VERY different games. Nintendo develops games that are aimed towards all audiences and Sony's first party games are a lot darker. Nintendo's games are also a lot more creative and revolutionary than Sony's games. Well, Nintendo HAS been developing games since the industry's early days so it was easier to be original since there were less ideas out there. Sony doesn't aim to be creative or revolutionary, but instead, it seems like they try to improve on ideas that are already there. Nintendo and Sony are VERY different when it comes to software and it's extremely hard to compare the two. Now let's move on to hardware. Nintendo's hardware has recently been white. The DSlite, the Wii, and the WiiU are white. The Wii seems to be made out of cheap plastic and is fairly light. The 3DS on the other hand, is not made out of cheap plastic and is fairly heavy. They both don't use the most recent technology, but are creative. The PS3 on the other hand, is dark, slim, and heavy. The PSP is very different from the PS3. It is made out of cheap plastic and is bulky. The NGP is.... well, I haven't gotten the chance to play an NGP yet. Sony's consoles use powerful technology, but are NOT creative at all. Well, the use of a CD-ROM in the original playstation was creative for the time..... but other than that, Sony is not very creative, but their consoles do improve on other ideas. Nintendo and Sony are clearly 2 VERY different companies that do not need to compete. They can coexist. If there was only one console-developing company, then things would be a lot less exciting. Well, those are my thoughts on the Nintendo vs Sony subject. And also, I like chocolate cake.
Gaming needs to step up
by jmalo1 on Comments
You know how video games work. You move around and drive a car, or fly and airplane, or slash monsters up with your sword. That's how they work. But what if gaming was more than that. What if gaming was a whole new experience, not even slightly based of something in the real world. That game would take a lot of time, effort, and brain power, but it needs to be done sometime soon. If you are a video game character, what do you do? You walk. What if games were a whole new experience, where there was no walking, it's just based off imagination, nothing more. No walking, no swords, guns, airplanes, cars, dancing, none of that. I hope someday in my lifetime, somebody will be able to pull this off. It till take a brilliant mind to think up of a game like this, but hopefully when it's done, it will stand out and create a new genre. It would be hard to create something like this, it may not even be possible, but if it is possible, the game will stand out. In my mind, the game would be something nobody expects, something where real world movements, objects, and physics don't exist. If somebody ever manages to create a game like this and the game is good, I will honor that person for creating that game of my dreams.
Most gamers don't like change
by jmalo1 on Comments
Two games I am hyped for are Kirby's Epic Yarn ad The Legend of Zelda: Skywards Sword. They both introduce something new to the series they are from and look fun and creative. After chatting a looking around on the internet, I found that people don't seem to like the way the two series are going. I'm going to cover gamers' reactions to both of these games, and how it irritates me.
Kirby's Epic yarn is one of the most creative games i have ever seen. Who would have though you can turn Kirby into yarn? Anyways, I have seen mixed reactions about this game. Some include people saying "this games looks awesome" to "this is not a kirby game this is gay and stupid". Why people are saying this is going to suck, I don't know. It seems to me like people are saying that because it is different. Whats so bad about change? Eventually gamers are going to get tired of the same old formula with the same old bosses. This game introduces some of the same bosses, just in yarn form and different attacks. I can see that people are used to the old formula, but don't go bashing the game before it's released. At least give new ideas a try.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is supposed to feature full control over Link's sword, and from what I have heard, it works very well. Many gamers, mostly the ones who haven't played the game yet, are complaining about it already. They are either complaining about it because of the art style, or the fact that they have to actually move a little in order to play the game. Cmon, guys, the Wind Waker was a good game, despite many gamers bashing the art style like they are now with Skyward Sword. Get over it. Also, if you are saying "this game is gonna suck cuz of the motion controls", you must be really lazy. The motion control was said to work just fine at the booths at E3, and all you have to move is your arm and hand. It doesn't take much effort like running 10 miles every day at the gym does. I have been waiting for a sword fighting game like this ever since the Wii came out, and finally, it's coming. It's introducing new things to the franchise, and it's taking away those annoying block puzzles.
Well, when those games come out, I hope everybody will stop ranting about games, which both introduce something new and realize that those games might turn out to be masterpieces, but sadly, even after the games come out, there will always be those annoying 1st person shooter fanboys that rant about games they have never played. If they were to play those games when they come out, they might even realize that games other than 1st person shooters can be good. When those people who are already saying that Epic Yarn isn't a real Kirby game actually get a chance to play it, they might even find the game to be a Kirby game, and it may even be the best Kirby game ever, but we will tell when those games actually come out. I hope that there will be a day when people stop ranting about a game, even before it comes out, but if there is ever a time period like that, it won't be anytime soon.
The Super Potato is heaven
by jmalo1 on Comments
The Super Potato in Akihabara (Japan) is a retro gamer's heaven. They had at least 10 famicoms and even a 3DO!!! I bought Mother 3 while I was there and it came in the original box, in perfect condition. They even had a virtual boy, but sadly, it wasn't for sale. Thankfully, I can read the game so I know what's going on. During My time in Japan I also saw a 3D TV that DIDN'T require me to wear 3D glasses. I also bought the Gameboy Gallery, Kirby's Pinball, and Megaman Zero 2. Gameboy Gallery and Megaman Zero 2 came in the original box, and they were actually really cheap. I came back from Japan a week and a half ago, and recently bought the Legend of Zelda: Minish cap, completing my collection of all the main Zelda games. My life has been going really well lately.........

Resident evil 4
by jmalo1 on Comments
GAAAH! I just recently got addicted to another great game. It is Resident evil 4 for the Gamecube. I never liked the horror/shooter games. I was always a fan of Mario/Zelda but never any shooters. But now I am halfway done with resident evil 4. I just killed the chief and now I am at the castle. I really suck at making money in that game.... I also sucked at gold farming in World of Wacraft as well (I don't play anymore though). Well, anyways... I just keep getting addicted to these great games.
