Yeah trying to pin down an objective best beat em up is a bit silly (and yes, I used to be that way about it too, but it's really just dumb lol).

There are games/series that are obviously at the top of the genre, but it's a wash from there. Each game does some things better than the others. From there it's strictly a matter of preference.

Personally, it's NG>Bayo>DMC. But if your take is the exact opposite, it's not like you're wrong lol. All of these games are superb in their own way.

And these days I think it's especially petty to in-fight over these games. It's an increasingly niche genre, gotta appreciate anything we get lol.

For sure. I love them all but always had a soft spot for the stylish gampeplay of DMC. I love Bayonetta aswell but I have some minor problems with the floaty combat. A DMC3 variety of weapons/combos with DMC4 "on-the-fly" change of styles would be perfect imo and thats why I'm mostly hyped for DMCV... if it does exist that is

@Vatusus: I think it comes down to personal preference for what is the top beat em up in the genre. The go to holy trinity is DMC3, NGB, and Bayo. There are strong arguments for all three of them being best in the genre. My favorite combat system is still NG2 even if the game surrounding the combat is sloppy.

uh, Platinum or Kamiya had nothing to do with both DMC3 or 4 and IMO, at the very least, DMC3 is better than Bayonetta. Even if Bayo3 was a multiplat I would be way more excited for DMCV then for Bayo3

Because it was on the Wii U, a flop console. The difference is Bayonetta 3 is on the Switch, which is selling way better in Japan than the PS4 & X1 combined. For any developers targeting the Japanese market, the Switch is the go-to console.

Still want to play it regardless. Bayonetta 1 is one of my all time favorite games and the sequel is a great action game as well.

So you knew that Bayonetta 2 was a Wii U exclusive. What gave you the ingenious idea that Bayonetta 3 was gonna land on PC? A gamer with decent intelligence would have figured out that Nintendo had something to do with the funding of part 2, hence the console exclusivity, and naturally would assume the same exclusivity for subsequent games, unless Platinum or Nintendo says otherwise.

But you on the other hand, just make these wild and unwarranted assumptions and then go on a rant like what you say is the common expectation

That's how Sega treats most of its IPs. Sega has so many quality IPs that it has abandoned and left for dead.

What's the point of supporting for DMCV when all of Platinum and Kamiya are focusing on Bayonetta 3? A "proper" DMC game can't be made w/out them. I'm still skeptical if Hideaki Itsuno can make DMC great again. But it will be surprising if they get Platinum involved somehow.

A lot of people use "exclusive" to mean exclusive to consoles from a particular company, not just exclusive to a particular console.

It's exclusive to the Switch because Nintendo is funding the game's development. Which is a smart move from Nintendo. Bayonetta 3 would be another quality exclusive in the Switch's line-up.

I once thought like the TC. But now I think of switch as a great home console once I was playing games on my 55” 4k tv and they looked and played great. As a result I also stopped wasting time watching digital foundry videos lol

@X_CAPCOM_X: Yep. That's quite true. Player expression is paramount in Bayonetta, and there is plenty to explore in the combat mechanics. It's a damn rewarding game for anyone who puts time into it.

Yeah, Nintendo giving them money to create Bayonetta 2 and 3 (otherwise, no Bayo at all) = Platinum stabbing their fans in the back. Wtf? Instead of hating Platinum for no reason at all, you could thank Nintendo for being the only one interested in making the Bayo series survive. You now have the option to play Bayo 2 and 3 instead of not at all.

The first one was on the PS3/360, consoles for casual movie game fans. The second one was on the Wii U, maybe the worst console ever released. The third one will do fine as it's on a proper console this time.

Man, don't hate Nintendo that much. Graphics is not especially beautiful I know, but wait are you buying Nintendo console to play fucking Doom? On fucking 16K or something? Switch is worth it's money, not only for Bayonetta 3. Look at the other games. Zelda, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade, Splatoon, Mario + Rabbids, and more in future.

And every Platinum game is worth it's money too. Just go buy Switch and stop bitching.

It is a shame that this type of deep action game isn't more widely appreciated even despite critical acclaim. I don't know, I guess the look of it turns people off.

Yeah I'm interested to see how it does, seeing as Switch is doing far better than the WiiU. Bayo might actually push some numbers this time around.

Then again, seems the market for action games that actually have some depth to them has become increasingly niche. More of an uphill battle than ever these days. :/

Bayo 2 was abandoned by Sega part way through development. Platinum started fishing for other publishers and no one bit. Project was gonna get canned until Nintendo came through at the last minute.

Bayo games may have a small dedicated fanbase and glowing critical acclaim, but that shit doesn't pay the bills.

Bayo 1 sold so poorly that Sega (the IP owner) wasn't willing to follow through on a sequel. And Bayo 2, saved by Nintendo, sold even worse. Probably safe to assume Bayo 3 wouldn't exist without Nintendo either.

I'd much rather see these games be multiplat. I feel that way about all 3rd party games, and the Switch is the last system I'd pick to play these games on given the choice. But beggars can't be choosers, I'm just glad these games exist, and Nintendo is to thank for that.

Sega is the real problem. Sega didn't even bother with Bayonetta after the first game and when Nintendo pick it up, she became a new Nintendo exclusive character. I hate to say it but it looks like you either buy a Switch or be left out in the cold. Trust me, I too would love to play Bayonetta 2/3 on my PC but since that will never happen, no point in me bitching about it.

Get a Switch. I've always paired a Nintendo console with my PC (except the Wii and Wii U which were abominations).
