Fanboys

I am new to blogs and whatnot. I am also new to having my own profile and being active in the forums at Gamespot. What I have noticed in the short time since I got involved is the amount of fanboy ranting that goes on. I don't know about anyone else but it kind of gets on my nerves. As one can see from my profile here, I have all of the next gen consoles. Heck, I still have a PSone and a PS2 at home. I don't favor any of the systems. There are things that I prefer on my PS3 and things that I prefer on my 360. Pretty much everything that is coming out now works equally well or equally poorly on either of these 'next gen' consoles. Unlike earlier last year where most games worked better on the 360 unless they were made for the PS3 first.

Anyway, I am getting off topic. The whole reason for this blog was to talk about fanboys. You know, they really give us real fans a bad name. They come on to the forums and flame and call one another 'x-bots' and other obnoxious names. I even tried to put one in their place the other day and got a warning from the Moderator about flaming. I was even called an Xbox fanboy by some of the other posters. It is so ridiculous. I wasn't even flaming. I was just telling the fanboy to knock it off and stop being so childish. It seems to me that what we really have here is jealousy more than anything else. I think they create posts to enrage one another because they are upset that they don't have both consoles. It is possible that they don't even realize that they feel this way. It's like they don't want to admit that they would like to have both consoles.

I used to have only a 360 out of the next gen systems so I was envious of the cool things coming out on the PS3 and the Bluray. I was jealous of the people that had the PS3 but I didn't go online and spout various fanboyisms. I did find myself trying to justify my purchase of the 360 to myself, especially with the RROD issues (although I have not experienced this problem first hand - knock on wood!). However my wife bought me a PS3 for Father's Day last year and I have been really happy with the purchase.

For a short while I was trying to figure out what was the big deal with the Wii as well. I kept telling myself that the Wii can't be next gen. After all the graphics suck. Well now that I have a Wii, I feel differently. It is so immersive. It is very next gen in the way that it is implemented. So that is just another example of being envious of the people that had the other system. I bought the Wii for my kids but I kind of like it too.

In conclusion, I have been kind of a fanboy in the past but never ripped into anyone just because they had a different system. First I was a 'POG' or a PC fanboy. Once I got a 360 (and became an x-bot):P, I had problems with people that had PS3's and Wii's. Now I have all the systems and I have seen the light!. What I have discovered is that when I was a fan of one system, I constantly had to justify my owning just that system. Deep inside I wanted the other systems but I either couldn't afford them or more likely could not justify their purchase to my wife. I know that not everyone is lucky enough to have all the systems but people should come to terms with their true feelings and why they get so angry at people that own the other systems. There is no need for a console and flaming war. I don't remember it ever getting this bad between the PS2 and the Xbox 1. Of course there is going to be competitition between the systems which is healthy and good for the consumer but the animosity amongst the gamers is unnecessary. Anyways that is just my two cents.
