Thank you for using such a dramatic title, creates a lot of unnecessary confusion and misconception.
Yes, they are technically switching engines. However, Amazons Lumberyard is a branch of Cryengine with more focus on online multiplayer. Since Crytek is doing poorly it makes sense that they switch over from normal Cryengine to a more online focused cryengine and keep in mind that at this point CIG has almost completely rebuilt Cryengine to suit their needs, you can't even call it Cryengine anymore at this point.
As far as I am aware nothing really changes for CIG's "StarEngine" either, it's not like they are starting from scratch. They are going to continue using their current engine and implement the useful bits of Lumberyard. Basically what they have been doing everything Crytek came with an update.
So please, don't make clickbaity titles like these and then also leave out the most important info. People see this and thing OMFG THEY ARE SWITCHING ENGINES?! THIS SHIT IS DOOMED! While in fact all they are doing is partering with someone who is making their own version of Cryengine just like they are. They are not in fact going to use an entirely new engine, they are most likely just gonna add the useful bits, like they have done so far anyway.
The world is not ending, they just found someone else to work with.
@ecurl143: If the reporter had done his job, he'd mention that the sale is going because they have to update the euro exchange rate. They are doing this sale so the people in europe can get the limited ships for a better price before they are forced to make the change to the exchange rate.
really? zelda the #1? sorry, but this has to be the worst looking zelda ever (it knocked wind waker right off its throne).. not even the slighest bit excited for that one.. nintendo is dead to me (console wise, the 3ds is sorta okay, just never gonna get near a Wii U.. EVER..)
