Vamp throws special knives occasionally that trap you to your shadow. It's explained as some kind of hypnosis. The only way to get out of it before he clatters you with loads more knives, is to shoot out the light which is casting your shadow, and then you can move again. To be honest, you can usually just get away with blasting him with the grenade launcher though. Anyway, yeah, MGS4 is the best game I've ever played. It's so good it broke my PS3. Seriously. I checked online and it's happened to other people too. So I'm calling Sony to replace it. Good times.
