Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii?

With all the 'fanboyism' going around, it begs the question of which system really reigns supreme. People spend all their time touting numbers and comparing apples to oranges, but no one really takes the time to really look at the strenghts of each system and the likes/dislikes of the individual gamer.

Personally, I own all three systems. If anything, I would have been dubbed a Nintendo fanboy for more than two decades. I've owned all the Nintendo systems, picking up each one upon release. Any time I was given the opportunity to purchase another system, I wouldn't. I simply didn't like them because they were not Nintendo. Sega Genesis being the one I was against most. All my friends had one, and when they'd invite me over to play, I'd opt out, wanting only to fire up my SNES.

Today's a different story. I finally purchased a PS2 after playing Gamecube for some time. It changed the way I saw systems and types of games. Of the 'Next Gen' consoles, I quickly jumped on the Wii (Zelda was the selling point for me). I dogged PS3 and Xbox 360 because of their prices. However, when I heard of a possible release of a particular title on the PS3, I ran out to buy a 60gb before they were gone. I wanted the backwards compatability. Xbox didn't interest me much at the time.

The PS3 proved to be quite entertaining even though it didn't have a ton of games to offer at the time. And since I was starting to tire of the few offerings PS3 and Wii had at the time, I decided to pick up the 360 for Dead Rising. I played it for a while.

I love all three of my systems; however, if I had to pick one as a favorite, I'd feel that I'd be betraying my attachment to the others. It appears as though the PS3 is the forerunner for me, however, since I've picked up a second unit for another room in the apartment. I watch all my movies on my PS3s, and I spend most of my time playing on them as well. If a game is released on mulitplatforms, I pick the PS3 version. The images seem clearer to me, despite reports that the 360 are better.

I won't say that one system is hands down the better buy since each has its own strenghts. The Wii appeals to the casual, active gamer (and those that are nostalgiac, like myself). The 360 and PS3 take care of their crowds, no matter how we may choose to define them--fanboys or not. At any rate, no one can really say to choose one of another. You just have to ask yourself: what kind of gamer am I?

A True Idiocracy

I watched a movie a few years ago and had to add it to my collection. It truly epitomized in my mind the plight of the world, at least in terms of a secular point of view. My religion knows what the real problem is, so this is merely an observation from a wordly standpoint.

The movie is Idiocracy, a Mike Judge film. The premise involves the world becoming very stupid over the course of 500 years. They become so stupid, that they no longer can substain themselves. Their crops have dried up, and they believe that the best thing for them to drink is something similar to Gatorade.

I'm a teacher of two and a half years. I graduated from high school in 1998. First hand experience tells me that as the years go on, the dumber this world gets. Everyone lets everyone else tell them what to think. Everyone worries about hurting each other's feelings, so they don't tell each other when something is done incorrectly. Instead, they praise even the smallest accomplishment, creating a lazy moron who cannot take it when they can't do something. Therefore, if something is too hard, they don't do it.

Kids today are getting that way. They want the easy way through life, without the effort. They're lazy, and because of this, they are becoming stupider and stupider. Society spoils them and makes them believe that they can become rich and famous without any skill or effort. It's pathetic, but it's true.

I challenge you to find proof of the contrary. Idiocracy is, in fact, occurring as we speak. Watch the movie, and you'll see what I mean.
