I think live service games are here to stay, but the time players need to invest in each one limits the number the market can support long term. A few will catch on and make their publisher truckloads of cash, most will fade away a year or two after release.

No. Everyone loves me. I'm awesome 😁
No. I have a Switch and a low end PC. Maybe 2-3 times a year I will "splurge" on a $30-$40 Nintendo game, but on the PC side it's EGS and Prime giveaways with the occasional deep discount purchase on Steam or GoG. Rarely pay more than $5 for anything there.
Blazing Angels 2. It's too arcadey for most flight sim fans, but that's why I like it. Similar to Crimson Skies, though a bit more grounded. Kinda got overshadowed by Wings of Prey/IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, which is probably the better game if I'm being objective.
You know, that actually doesn't sound too bad. The Horizon world could work well for a MMORPG. Oh well.
@my_user_name: Yeah, Twisted Metal could have worked well as a live service. I was disappointed when that got cancelled too.
As a PC/console gamer back then, I can say that the Master Race was on the whole unimpressed with Halo CE. The port was shoddy, and gameplay was slow, some levels were too big for their own good. We had much better multiplayer with UT and Quake, and much better singleplayer with Half-Life, Wolfenstein, NOLF, and even immersive stuff like System Shock or Deus Ex.
But, as a college kid around this time, I can say Halo was IT! Split screen with your roommates, and 16-player matches with four XBoxes hooked together in the rec room was an awesome experience. And putting that aside, even with the slow gameplay and questionable level design, the campaign did feel epic.
@nirgal: The girl in SW Outlaws actually looked pretty good, but there were a lot of scenes in the trailers when her facial animations kept borking out. I get that the game was pretty buggy, but the marketing department really dropped the ball putting those scenes in.
I'd say Fortnite and Minecraft are proof of this just as much as Switch.
@mrbojangles25: "Also it's funny because I remember all the Baldur's Gate 2 fans, all the Neverwinter Nights fans, and the Planescape fans and so on....they all complained about how "casual" Dragon Age 1 was when it came out."
This is the funniest/saddest part of the whole thing. Even with Neverwinter Nights, people complained the campaign was mediocre. The game was loved for the tools if gave folks to create their own adventures.
And nobody bought Jade Empire.
Another three letter acronym? How long before politicians start saying we need to get MAU out of our schools?
