I was thinking awhile back about ideas that games still havent tried and this one came to mind: What if in a game(probably combat based) the player controlled character started at the maximum level and got weakeras the game went on.
A bit wacky sounding I know, but hear me out, there are some pretty cool ideas that could be integrated into a game like this. For one thing, the game would have a much more plausable difficulty curve than most on the market not, as instead of the enemy developing new skills and higher health in artificial, contrived ways, the enemy could stay at the same level but become harder to fight because you are becoming weaker.
Additionally, this type of leveling could really enhance the right story in a poignant way. What if it were a redemption story, but the protagonist was slowly dying from cancer. Or maybe a something more similar to the weakening of Frodo, where the proximity to evil is slowly devouring the spirit and power of good in the main character.
Finally, this could be a cool way to encourage a stealth aspect in a game. Imagine if for each enemy you kill you become a bit weaker(conscience?), encouraging you to sneak around them to maintain yourstrength.
I think this could be a pretty cool, refreshing approach to tired game design, thoughts?
