Hmmmm.....if I use the example of GTAIV reviews, I'd say I cannot understand how or why it has been given a 10 by alot of parties. I didn't enjoy the GTA series because after awhile it seemed pointless. I thought GTAIV would be different but it turned out to be the same for me and just wasn't my cup of tea.

Just a lil' background info I played Mafia on the PC way back and I absolutely LOVED IT. I think the same goes for any other games. I did not mind the 'long cutscenes', I enjoyed them so much that I was not aware that it was 'long'. I loved MGS3 for what is was worth - it was epic and filled with emotions!! - I can't quite recall recent games to be able to convey that sort of experience for me. Perhaps I am just an overtly 'sensitive gamer' :)

Something else to note is perhaps this - a lot of the reviews that come through (not just in MGS series but I am sure there are others out there) always 'complain' that the lack of gameplay vs cutscenes etc. Here is my take on this 'issue', if the 'short' span of gameplay is of quality; of a standard that is superb, I don't think I will complain. I MIGHT hope that there be more of that BUT too much of a good thing is not often the best thing. In the case of MGS series - I LOVED the cutscenes and I LOVED the originality, unique, crazy times when I was 'playing' the game.

I might already be seen as a fan of the series, but I am trying to be as open as I can here. I love the series. I want to 'finish the fight' (COULDN'T HELP IT SORRY :p I don't particularly like Halo :P). MGS3 - 8.7, not in my books. MGS4, if there is a review that ends up giving it 3.5, I don't really mind - it's their experience not mine. :) Have fun everyone!!

[QUOTE="XL83"][QUOTE="longhorn7"][QUOTE="pigsybum"]

But how good can a 6hr-long game get?

longhorn7

ask Gears of War. Or all of the MGS series. Or both GOW's. Or SOTC. Or ICO. Or Katamari Damacy. Etc. Etc. Etc.

From memory MGS on the PS was SHORT ---- SHORT but the EXPERIENCE or rather MY personal experience with the game was more so so positive that i didn't care if it was short. IMHO that is why i play games for - the experience, the atmosphere (bioshock as the more recent example for most). So yeah, length wise it doesnt matter TO ME :P my 2 cents.

Those games are relatively short, but not 6 hours short. GOW 2 clocks in at 15-20 hours. MGS are at least 10.

I beat GOW 2 my second playthrough in 7 hours and in my first one 8, and my friend that is a GOW freak beat it even faster than that it only took him launch day to beat it. MGS games are all beatable in about 5 hours. In fact you get a special ranking for beating snake eater in under 5 hours.

i got the game yesterday. I played it till level 3 but kept going back to the earlier stages trying to get gold. I PERSONALLY like it. I personally think it's pretty nice and cool. I had no issue with the controls but had to maintain composure LOL to not just simply chuck my controller around. AHAHAHAH

but i like it yeah. so i am happy.

Something I have been wondering is why did game reviews start putting a score in the on the reviews in the 1st place? Why don't they just write opinions like they do and leave the scoring out. To me the scoring just leaves much to be desired and evidently most would think so as well - not just for Lair but for other games as well. I think giving scores is just a terrible way to gauge something that offers something intangible.

My 2 cents anyways. Maybe I should start writing reviews that takes into consideration what I DIDN'T LIKE and what others MIGHT like and then concluding with the good points that I liked, that I didn't fancy etc etc but ultimately leave the thinking to consumers as opposed to providing a score to something intangible.

hmmm just read some of the posts above prob something like what acid was saying. Sorry i copied this from my other post in another thread.

You people need to stop lieing to yourselfs the game sucks. It is not like you all worked on it. You people act like if this game is your baby or something. anime-2k3

now if they were to say that the game wasn't as bad as some have make it out to be, its just their opinion/review/thoughts. . And if we all agree that reviews are really a matter of subjective opinion and that they have posted their own opinions here, why do you attack that opinion. Cos then it seems like you too are making the thought that "the game is awful" your baby as well.

I never quite get it with all this fighting and verbal arguments over little things like video games. Its like telling someone NO!!! PIZZA SUXX. Why on earth would you say pizza is nice?!?!!? "You people act like if"pizza "is your baby or something."

If you own the game and don't like it - return it/trade it in and i am sorry to here that you didn't like the game (or some other game perhaps) and post something decent and value adding - i played the game, it ain't my cup of tea/ i personally wasn't quite fond of it because.... SIMPLE. We have enough bickering and "YOU SUCK COS U LIKE THE GAME THAT OTHERS HAVE SAID SUCK/ OR THAT I DON'T FANCY" posts that if it were physical food, we'd all be puking through our noses by now.

Anyways sorry, just my 2 cents.

I cant agree enough that at the very least, if any BRD at all, Planet Earth has to be one to be used to show off HD quality videos. I only have 3 BR movies/videos and Planet Earth is one of them and seriously when my housemate was watching it with me, he was blown away. The fact that he too was into documentaries was a plus - but yeah basically he was not a video/audiophile fanatic and pretty much happy with dvd etc etc but when I said him Planet Earth, he realised the huge gapin difference in image quality LOL...

In any case, I think Planet Earth is good stuff. ;)
