MW2 vs. BC2

Both games have come out, and the war has begun. Infinity Ward had secured the console fan base, but EA being a rival of Activision, just couldn't let it go. Starting off with the first wave of attacks, they sent in Bad Company 2 to take back what was rightfully their's (or so they think). Soon, Call of Duty's throne will topple with EA's second attack, Medal of Honor, coming out later this fall, and Halo: Reach joining in the fight also. So, which is better? Let's see. Note that this is an unbiased review. Graphics: Modern Warfare 2 is a stunning masterpiece. Although much hasn't changed in terms of visuals since the last two games, that doesn't make it a bad thing. Environments are gorgeous, vegetation is amazing, and explosions are awesome. Weapon, vehicle, and character models have also been upgraded massively, although character models now utilize low res textures, fooling us unattentive players. Bad Company 2 on the other hand, has changed a lot since it's last two iterations. Bad Company 1 has a horrible grain filter, which is now removed. Visceral colors are used to detail the environment, and multiple snow/sand effects add in to the internal environment (the playing field), as well as adding in Halo 3-esque sprites which dominate the external environment (outside the actual level) to create a war-like experience. Note that for graphical freaks, there is quite a bit of pop-in and some low res textures, but overall, the graphics are a fierce competitor. Sound: There simply is no competition to Bad Company 2's sound. Play the game and even the most hardcore of MW2 players will admit the impressive soundscape. Gameplay: Depends on what you like. If you just want to mess around and have a good time, MW2 is good for you. Those looking for a serious gaming environment where teamwork is critical, then head for BC2. BC2 offers a multitude of squad/team play options, such as spawning on each other, resupplying, reviving, and healing each other, repairing an armored advance, etc. Possibilities are endless. However, you MUST work as a team. Lone wolf is not an option. So, n00b friendly, or n00b hated. Which do you choose? Singleplayer: Simply put, Infinity Ward is best at this. Even though MW2 didn't beat MW1's campaign by any means, it's still one of the best FPS campaigns out there. BC2 does a decent job, however, the lack of (or obscure) background story and short (shorter than MW2) length makes it another generic one. However, the epic moments are so much more savioring than MW2. In the end, go for MW2 if you want singleplayer. It's harder, and has more to it. Just beat the game on any difficulty and the last mission on hard, collect all guns and destroy all M-COM (which isn't that hard) and you're done. Multiplayer: If you want a really fun MP experience, go for BC2. You'll have constant epic moments, you'll work as a team with your friends (which many of you sorely miss), but MP is a bit unforgiving on BC2. MW2 is a bit more n00b friendly, so you can be a pro in an instant. The Verdict: MP = BC2 SP = MW2
