The Ring remake was not an "improvement over the source material", it was merely dumbification for the US audience - that's the case for most "remakes".
@zarpie: That's a very naive opinion. First of all, the software you are installing on your computer, including the operating systems, are developed by private companies. And private companies are more than happy to sell your data to anyone who offers a reasonable sum.
@wswedin: That's a mistake many people make. If you have no problem that this totalitarian state spies on you and digs into your personal life, go ahead and play this game. I would not recommend it.
@zarpie: I would not say China is "one of the most corrupt countries in the world", that's of course US propaganda because China has become main global rival of the USA. I would argue that Trumpist USA where him, hefty portion of the republican party and his brainwashed minions living in an alternate reality (where Trump won 2020 election and remains god-emperor forever) is pretty corrupt as well. So once you install Windows, or any other closed-source software, you are giving up control over your computer to someone else. Your focus on Chinese entertainment software seems hysterical to me. Business, as well as crime, ignores national boundaries - American companies like Cisco and Google were more than happy to help develop and implement Chinese systems used to track the Chinese citizens.
@terrythegnome19: That's right, AC combat system is a poor immitation of successful titles like Dark Souls or said witcher. The so called "RPG" - which is in fact a threadmill-pawnshop where you lug tons of junk around in the most repetitive manner for yours, until you give up and pay for skipping to higher level, is also far inferior to true RPG games where you can actually "roleplay", instead of running a recycling plant and a pawnshop. Witcher games were born out of enthusiasm and perfectionism, AC is a soulless corporate grind machine. It wasn't, but it is now.
@terrythegnome19: If the grind was "totally optional", they would not offer an option to skip the "exciting, unique gameplay" for money in the shop. Grind is always designed to be boring to push you towards the purchase. It's like coming to a five star restaurant to sample grade A5 wagyu, and the staff tells you that you either have to pay twice the usual price, or that you can sample the meat for free, but must eat five kilograms of plain rice first. And no, it's not similar to Witcher 3, that was a grade or two better game in every aspect, and there was no shop. You also did not need several tons of wood and iron to upgrade a single sword. Please don't mention annually industrially produced grind machines with something as unique as Witcher 3 was in one paragraph again. Thank you.
Started with Origins, the ability to assassinate people was removed in favor of "moderately wounding" them, which made stealth based gameplay total garbage. The series turned to really mediocre action RPG that does everything worse than the competition, and the writing also took a turn for the worse. My favorite AC game was III, because it was really ambitious, glorious trip back down the history of the New World, I enjoyed every bit of it, even the lengthy prologue with Haytham Kenway (fantastic character, btw). The best protagonist was Ezio Auditore, hands down. The exceptional gem in the new games were the dialogues between Alexios and Socrates, those were fantastic. I am not buying any more AC games, Odyssey was such a shameless grind it totally turned me away. Better games everywhere.
