Stomp the Yard

Hey all,
I will like to hear your thoughts on this article.

"Even though one theater in Springfield, Ill., decided this week not to immediately show the film for fear that attracting young black theatergoers would lead to violence - the city's National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has condemned the decision - there's just one scene of real violence in "Stomp the Yard."

Movies such as these do not promote violence, especially since it only has one scene.  The film is composed of dance, comedy, and a little romance.  It's a feel good film.  If any movie should've been banned, should've been "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" - the 50 Cent film - it's story is centered around violence.  None of the other urban dance films were banned: "Save the Last Dance", "Step Up", and who doesn't love "You Got Served" (heh).

I'm going to speculate that perhaps since it was something new, something different...a movie about Africana fraternities, about stepping...this is the reason why it was banned.  Ohk, maybe Springfield, Illinois is thugtastical, I don't know.

With my positive outlook on Africana fraternities, I suggest everyone to see this film, and I hope that no other cities ban it.  I believe the film showcases Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.  So, go check them out.  However, the best steppers are Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
