@chiefwiggum16: I'm sorry i didn't know about that tweet thing :/
Pc gamers and console gamers aren't a different crowd, they're all 'gamers'.. A guy that owns a pc COULD also own a console like the Xbox One but why though if all it's exclusives come out for pc as well? I own a pc and a PS4 (and i intent on buying the Switch to) so that i can have the best of all the platforms.
@chiefwiggum16: Dude now you're reaching, it *does* matter if these games are also on pc and not just for a few people...
And where did you see that Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was gonna be multi-plat? :/
I do agree on the Scorpio being beefy, but again what use is a console without games (Microsoft said that they were going to announce more games this yr and i hope they do, i hope they prove me wrong..)? That like having an awesome car but no fuel to drive it lmao
@GiroLiro3:I'm glad we can have a normal discussion about this :)
You know what? I think Shuhei Yoshida knows that about Nintendo (their goals) and i think he knows how important it is, much like you said, to branch out and attract different kinds of people. After all this isn't the 80's, 90's anymore, nowadays you have older people playing games too (my brother is in his 30's with a wife and kids and he got ME into gaming). The thing is just that though, Nintendo thinks that this is what they're doing but they just don't have that image they never did.. The other day i was watching an interview some guys were having with Tom Kalinske (he was CEO of Sega of America during the 90's) and he was saying how they, at Sega, in the beginning had to basically 'create' their own market because Nintendo already owned like 95% (or something like that i can't remember the exact number but it was something along this number) of the market back then, which was the 'kids' market (their own words..). So Sega realized that it wasn't just 'kids' that were playing video games, they saw the potential on other markets, such as the 'teenagers' and 'young adults' markets and they started producing video games for those demographics too. So they were basically doing what Nintendo weren't doing at the time (hence the Nintendon't saying) and at a certain point they also started to do what they WERE doing (after a while when Nintendo's control of the 'kids' market fell a bit they started producing more games like the ones Nintendo were producing). These guys had the perfect vision i'm really sad they gave up on the console market.. Now you've got Nintendo continuing with their legacy but the thing is much of the mentality that Nintendo had in the late 80's/early 90's, is still there.. Although i think they're definitely trying this time (most of their Switch commercials don't even have kids in 'em anymore! :P).
Sony do try to release the right kind of games for their consoles but at the same time now, pretty much like you implied, they're also trying to compete with PCs which is stupid because the PC market is and always will be different than the console market... The only thing i'm sorry about PS4 is exactly this, all the resolution in the world isn't gonna be much help if the games are tedious (NOT saying they are now, but at the rate things are going it won't be long until all games are devoid of that little something that makes the whole experience so great - ADDICTING FUN) And you know what? 'Fun' doesn't have to = childish or simple either, i had the best time of my life playing games like Metroid, Star Wars Rouge Squadron, Eternal Darkness and on Sega consoles, Virtua Fighter games (yes the first games haven't aged well but they're still fun none the less), Shenmue games, Die Hard Arcade, etc.. And there are a lot more.
So in the end it's all about decisions, will Sony continue to push it's agenda to make consoles EXACTLY like PCs? Will Nintendo focus on what important and actually start releasing games that people wanna play? You gotta admit that games like 1, 2 Switch don't really make much sense.. I mean you don't even look at the TV? Than you mind as well go play a game of UNO.. I'd be perfectly happy if they had released another Party compilation game (like Wii Party series), or a Mario Party port for the Switch OR better yet Nintendoland 2! I loved that game so much :D
But let's see what happens, it's all in their hands now we can't be overly positive because knowing Nintendo like i do mistakes might happen but at the same time we can't be pessimistic either.. Even Sony wants them to succeed and it's not just PR talk! They know if Nintendo fails they'll be in a heap of trouble because it's good to have competitors, without them you never push yourself farther (i'm not considering Xbox a competitor because they're like twins, they're doing the exact SAME thing so they're more like brothers than rivals - this is also why i think that Nintendo ARE competing with PS4/Xbox, because what they are doing IS different so they are the true rivals not someone who's doing the same thing.. For all we know Sony and Microsoft could join forces to make one console :P).
All right here we go, get ready this is long and there is NO TLDR version so if you don't want the hassle just move along please :)
I agree with some of the things you said and also disagree on others so here's my rebuttal to each of your points.
1 - Yes the storage is upgradable but do you realize how expensive micro sds still are? They're more expensive than a normal 2.5" hdd, and 2tb micro sd cards will (yes will, because they don't even exist yet) be more expensive than the console itself!! Although on the other hand i don't know how they would've added more storage to the Switch (the tablet) without compromising some of it's other aspects..
2 - "on the go". Not everyone is going to use this console on the go period. I mean the point of the console being a hybrid is that it can do both, if you all wanted the console to be mostly portable then they mind as well have made it only portable like the 3DS...
3 - I agree with you on this one, just because they're not there at launch it doesn't mean they won't be implemented later on.
4 - Again i agree with you, even if the console was only a home console in my opinion it still didn't have to support cd's, dvd's, game discs, etc..
5 - I partially agree with you on this one, on one hand people these days seem to care more about the graphics than the games themselves but on the other hand the console being under-powered is bad because (and this is just my opinion) the more powerful the console is, the better the devs could make the games although they usually use this "leverage" to improve on stupid things like graphics and such which is a shame..
6 - Look at what you wrote -> "people wouldn't have any games to play in 2018".. Don't you see that's the problem, this is why it's so important for a Nintendo console to have more than just Nintendo games. This is why, in part, the Wii U failed, because they were the only ones supporting the console so there were game droughts.. Fan-boys love to say that "no one" buys Nintendo consoles for 3rd party games but that's bs, i know i wouldn't mind buying the next big hit (like Red Dead Redemption 2) on a Nintendo console.. Hell, if i could buy all the 3rd party games i want to play on a Nintendo console i'd just buy that console instead of having to buy 2 or 3 different consoles, saving money to buy more games instead..
7 - You're right about this one, comparing the Switch's library to those console's libraries is stupid...
8 - Ok i don't even know were to start about this one... First, the fact that you all think that Nintendo consoles aren't "in the competition".. That's not exactly true, you all speak of it as if it wasn't even a console (Nintendo consoles), in the end they ARE competing with the other consoles even if it's just in terms of sales. Because Nintendo are a business company first and foremost, they have to care about these things. And when everyone speaks about the consoles of this generation they always mention all of them including Nintendo's consoles (some people might not out of spite but that's different..) so how are they not competing exactly? Is it the fact that their consoles are "different" because now you can play games while taking a duke in the bathroom? But those that really matter? I thought the games themselves were the most important thing on a console and when it comes to that they all obviously do that.. Ok.. Secondly making the games portable, again i agree with you and this is something that i'm going to take advantage considerably since in have to share the TV in my house with other people (even if it's just for that, it's a big plus for me). And finally the gimmicky controls... this is debatable i think because some people like motion controls but not everyone does. Remember how TLOZ Skyward Sword was criticized because of the motion controls? How most people hated it? :) I think motion controls work really well on some games but they shouldn't be the main thing on a console, i don't even think they should be implemented on the console (at first) at all. They should be more like an optional thing, and to be that they'd have to be more like something that you can choose to buy (or not) later. I can't even tell how many Wii games were ruined for me because the devs (or whoever it was) decided to basically force the "gimmicky" controls onto people..
I'm not trying to debunk you lol or hate on Nintendo or anything like that i myself love Nintendo but the problem is that now this all turned into a battle, on one side you have the "haters" (i put "s because not all of them are haters, some of them actually make valid points but in the end they're are thrown into the same bag...) and on the other you have the fanboys, and they're ALL hating on each other. The thing is, to much hate is obviously not good but also to much love isn't either because with too much love you get blind and you might not see the truth even when it's right in front of you..
