I went to one of the official PS 3 Launches in Australia recently, all excited about getting first hand look at the new system and still a bit bitter at how we had to wait 6 months after the rest of the world to get it......
Complete Home Entertainment system? Lets look at what it can do:
- Video Games- awesome!
- Wireless controllers. No more stumbling over the cables when getting up for another beer.
- Blu-ray! Excellent- and cheap too! A low end Blu-ray player in Oz will cost you about $1,500, whereas the PS3 is only $999. There's the old DVD player gone
- Digital Audio out. There's the stereo replaced.
- Internet access. Unless you want specific PC apps, there's the computer gone.
- On line gaming Free!! Thanks for coming Xbox, you don't even come close.
- Built in Hard drive, plus support for multiple external HD's. See Point 2, 3 and 4.
- Using iToy and internet you can even video conference!
So in a nutshell, it's got nearly everything. What's it missing?
DIGITAL TUNER! Yes most TV's these days come with built in digital tuner and/or set top boxes are pretty cheap, but to me that's a glaring ommission, the one thing that prevents it from being the COMPLETE Home Entertainment System.
