With 100 new pokemon that look rather similar to previous incarnations and have the exact same movesets! Nothing changed! Gotta Buy em All! I don't know what games you've been playing, but D/P changed ALOT of things in Pokemon, like making moves special or physical based on the move itself. Also, it added a crapload of new moves. If they changed Pokemon too much, nobody would like it. If they left it exactly the same, with nothing new, it would be boring. That's why it is such a great series.
