So, a couple of days ago, I managed to get my hands on a copy of this. After dropping a huge amount of money to make my PC, I decided that if a game could squeeze it, I should get it. And so, a week after buying this PC, I bought Crysis.
The game had amazing graphics, no doubt about it. The graphics, the lightning, shadows. Everything visual in the game was amazing. The physics engine was really good for the time of release, almosteverything could be breaked, and though it was pre-scripted, breaking trees in several pieces was fun, specially watching them fall after a big explosion. But as with many PC games, the joy of it came from mods. Specially the Natural Mod pack. Sadly, that was all that the game had, the rest of the game felt slow, easy, and generic, being the graphics the only Wow factor in the game, and the gameplay being the usual FPS juice.
Now, Crysis was not an impressive title sales worth as many PC fans thought it would be, but it reached the million copies, and gave place to a sequel (expansion) called Warhead.
Warhead is set in the same time frame as Crysis, but you star a different character, Psycho, who is a British special ops member, who is in the island to foil the North Koreans plot.
The game improves a lot over the past entry, adding more enemies to the play, less "half-baked exploration moments" and more explotions, lots of booms, and all that crap we all love. In turn, the game sacrifices lenght, but it was worth it.
Now, technically speaking, Warhead is less demanding than Crysis, mostly thanks to the improvements done to the engine, which help the game running faster and better. The gameplay per se was not changed, and you can expect more of the same as in the past, with a few new custom things.
The problem with the first Crysis, was that its gameplay was generic (though still solid) and was not flawless in its execution. This time, with the added action moments, you can really enjoy the game more than before.
The main problem today with FPS is that they all have that "Been There, Done That" feeling. So when an FPS is released, the dev has to make sure that they will have "that" something to set it apart.
In Doom 3 we had the horror atmosphere, in Counter Strike we have the online gameplay, same with Halo 3, in Resistance we have the weaponry and in Crysis we have the Graphics.
Now, as I said, the problem with the first was the lack of fights in the game. Warhead fixes that, by adding more than enough combat to bring joy to our trigger happy fingers.
So, Im preparing my review for this game, as well as one for Crysis and they should be up soon, as I plan to make my photo sesion for them this weekend and upload the reviews most likely next week.
Cheerios friends,
Kenshin Himura
