Well, aren't we all? Sorry, I must be getting ahead of myself, so let me just, find my bearing, retrace my steps, and begin a new. Well, here we are, another evening spent going in circles on that one site you got tabbed in your browser. And yesterday, a evening just as this one I had an epiphany! Now, I'm not completely sure it will be life changing, but it was enough to get me thinking.
Why is it that on most gaming focused channels, may it be youtube or otherwise, bickering amongst users are the main way of discourse? I like to remember that 10 or so years ago it was all about the games, now it feels like I have seen everything. People getting slammed for simple questions, to people being threatened to death for being 12 years old and so on and so forth. And at a first glanse I find it all apalling and all that, but this my friend is where my little thing struck; why is this even a thing?
Is it the sudden influx of gaming in mainstream media? Too simple, I find it hard that there only where one type of nerd before the IT age kicked in. I remember back when I first got a stable internet connection, and I found trailers and the likes for games coming out online. My main objective was only to get my next fix. It was all for the game, my passion, and my absolute joy in life. And all of the sudden it all started to warp. I'm not sure if it was me who got more savy with social media, or it was social media getting more savy with gaming. It just exploded, and we had fights, bickering, and argumentations all over the place. Heck, I've seen people so hell bent on belittling others they have actually replied to their own comments to call themselves assholes.
And this my friend is where the cake is at. We have become eachothers entertainment. How I don't know, but I cannot find any other explanation as to why someone would browse through game videos, and then instantly jump someone for whatever reason they can conjure up in their mind. Hell, I'd be surprised that this blog will be left unscaved however dull and boring it may be. It is after all, just for the lols. Just as much as I take enjoyment in writing about your escapades on the web, you too will take pleasure in interacting with me. How I will react as a person is of little to no concern to most people for in the end I am just as much entertainment as the next Diablo fiasco. Which is more important than Diablo itself by the way.
For this is the thing; gaming news are about as much drama as it is about games. I'm starting to feel like every new game that comes out is a new person joining paradise hotel. But unlike the show they are not really the star of the show, instead it's the fanbase around it that is the goal. Even the fanbase in itself can't refrain itself from going at eachother. Let me ask you this; Have you ever tried coming with constructive critisism during a proper beta test? I have, a couple of times. I am in no way an expert, but it recieved way more flack than ANY of my trolling has ever done. And we already have the answer as to why. I am purely entertainment. The more you try, the more they try. It's part of the meta game of gaming, and it's starting to really get to me.
It's not a secret most people are the same when it comes to rethorics, spelling and just baseline IQ levels, and yet you betetr well have every corner and every flank covered if you ever dare set foot in a dungeon with people who think they no. You are but a carrot on a stick, put there to provoke the wrath of a thousand DeathReaperShadow1001's who will promptly teach you how to act, or rather, stfu. It's important you play by the rules, anything else lands your ass in the wolf pit. And the worst possible crime you can comit is being naive enough that your excitement will excite others. You are spam.
My instant reaction to my own words is to excuse my point of view. Cover up any and all holes in my arguments, when in fact this is purely a thought formed in my head. It's not ground breaking, nor will it be especially interesting for anyone to read unless it's to start something. Is this really the type of community we want? Yes, it's the one we have, but do we want it? I for one am tired of constantly looking over my shoulder.
So here's my first baby steps back towards my passion for games. I will begin with a promise to post when I'm excited, and to not when the goal is to entertain myself on others behalf. To refrain from going into argumentations with people whom does not agree with my praise, or the way I feel. I will not compromise with my love for any one game, and above all, I will not contribute to the fettid atmosphere that has taken hold of my beloved community
People, can we please stop consuming eachother?
