What are the top ten selling exclusive game titles for PC in 2009 (or 2008)? It would be really interesting to see.

For the record; I play a lot of Total War and Red Orchestra, and I totaly agree that MW2 is a noobish headless shooter. ( i think i got to lvl 19 before i started playing the BF BC2 beta instead).

Edit: I found a list of the top 100 selling games from 2008 onwww.edge-online.com. The only PC exclusive I could find was theThe Sims 2: Bon Voyage at91st place.

I havent upgraded my pc for 18 months because every PC game is just a port. My PS3 has not been upgraded at all. MW2 is a very good example. MW2 outsold CoD4 on PC in numbers sold! PC gaming is actually growing in popularity, too bad it is Farmville and other Facebook/Browser games, not the high end 3D games we are talking about. People tend to measeure "better or worse" in terms of only graphics. It is like measuring performance of cars in only horsepower. It is a part of the story, but doesnt give you the whole picture.

I got the 80% figure from the same place as "console is only big in the US" argument comes from. People start who arguing about small numbers are only making smokescreens to cover the facts. Follow the money, it is as simple as that. The suits are not putting their money into PC gaming, they are making games for console, then porting them to PC half a year after console release to get the customer to buy the console version instead of downloading a copy from pirate networks. Activision UK confirmed that only 3 % of the sales of MW2 in UK was on PC. FPS justed to be PC domain, but not anymore is seems. Arguing that PC is as user friendly as a console is, excuse my English, BS. PC is by far a much more complex system to use and maintain, even with Steam you still need to upgrade drivers, find out if system req. are met etc. Steams explosive growth in users last year is easy to explain. Several popular games in 2009 demanded a Steam account in order to work (ie MW2, To.al War, and more). I think that a large portion of the 5 million is from MW2 alone. I have been a very active PC gamer for 15 years. But for the last 3 years I have got the feeling that I own a 360 - not a PC. Almost all games are ports from console. The graphics are better, but they still smell of porting.

PC gaming has two benefits: 1. The best graphics 2. You can use the PC to do other stuff too PC gaming is not dead, its not just as popular as consoles. The best evidense is to look at the games. 80 % or more of all PC games are console ports. All the advertising money are used on console games. If PC gaming is doing so great, why is there almost no investors in the gaming industry willing to bet their money on PC games? People choose console because of its benefits over PC: - It is first of all much, much easier to use. No drivers, no hw req, no drm - It is cheaper - the argument that PC gaming is cheaper than console is BS. The price examples given by PC fanbois often rely on ppl allready having a high end desktop, and all the perhipials(ie mouse, keyboard, monitor etc) are left out. Console is much cheaper. Everybody has an TV even if they dont own a console, you cannot add it as an cost to console gaming!

Tried the demo for 10 minutes, got very very bored . Heavy Rain will be in my mailbox tomorrow and with titles like Bad Company 2 and Red Dead Redemption comming, I let Yakuza slip into the dark sea of forgotten games..

It is also a question of pricing and distribution of the console. Today the resellers do not make any money on the sale of the console. The margins for the reseller are to be found in selling games and other console related equipment. Going all DD on games will give the resellers no motivation for selling the console. Changing the distribution system for a console is very expensive. My guess is that you will find blu-ray in your local store and a DD alternative on LIVE/PSN, like Steam and PC games work today.

No one can argue that PC is not the best technically compared to any console. But having the best technical quality doesnt always translate to being the best experience. I own both a high end gaming PC and a PS3. I find myself gaming more and more on the PS3. Why is that? Firstly, I spend 8 hours at work in front of a PC - it is the very valid comfort argument! Secondly, having kids, I dont find the time or the money to spend on updating hardware, updating drivers, troubleshooting if something doesent work, checking hw requirements etc. Having been a part of the hw upgrade scene for 10 years; the argument about PC gaming not beeing expensive is **** If you dont have any hw from to canibalize from you are looking at 2000 USD to buy a minimum of the stuff you need for PC gaming. Everybody has a TV, so buying a console costs less than 450 USD to get everything you need. Console is easier and give more value for the money. Buy a game, put it in the slot, game on!

I have both a good gamer PC (quad core, 8800 gt, 4 gb ram) and a PS3. 2009 was the first year I gamed more on the PS3 than the PC because: - 95 % of games on PC are 360 ports (Strategy and MMORPG are the only games selling more on PC,), hence graphics and controls on PC are only marginally better and do not at all use the computing power my PC can deliver. - Spending 8 hours a day at work in front of a PC; it is relaxing to sit and game on the couch and not spend even more time infront of a desk (in my home). - I can lend PS3 games from friends and collegues and trade games at Gamestop. It is not expensive. - I'm tired of PC anti piracy software giving a paying customer (ie me) a lot of trouble because, they try to stop pirates, but still games are on the piratbay before launch!? GTA4 was hell to install on my PC - update drivers - install game - install Games Live - GTA cafee something - securom (who only accept the cd half the time) - download and install patches and then have to log on to everything every time I want to play . - PS3 just put the game in the console and it works.
