Very late acquirer of current gen console

It's so sad that I'm just about to get my own console, especially since the hype is already up for next-gen consoles. It'll be just one more year before the new systems see the light of day, and here I am just about to get a Playstation 3. One reason for this is because we never really got to afford home consoles, especially during the release because that is just one cruel price tag. Fortunately, now the prices are a little more in reach for me, but I only got interested in console gaming because of peers. I was satisfied with my PSP back then, until no more good games came out and I can't play japanese games because the plot of the game is my biggest interest and I don't speak nihongo. I was also a confused with what console to buy, and had to search the net for endless fanboy wars, Xbox 360 vs. PS3 rap battles, Hardware durability (RROD, YLOD) and games, and since my friends all have the same console, I decided I'd get myself Sony's console. All of the great exclusives are there anyway IMO. Sony's consoles have long life cycles, the PS2 even outliving its supposed span (although I never got to own one, and I think this is starting to look like a "pity me" message) and the PS3 is just 6 years old. I thought I'd get four more years to leisurely enjoy and finish the games that I've been missing out on (it'd be hard to get games that were released 6-3 years ago though. Darn even assassin's creed 1 is hard to find in here). But what is this? Orbis? Durango? It's not really a bad thing, but a lot of rumors about them make me want the current-gen to stay. Well if change is inevitable, I just hope they still support the systems. Maybe keep some multiplayer games' servers online, release some more AAA games, I don't know, something for us late comers in the current generation of gaming. Really, does anyone think the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are getting old?
