I'm a big fan of the franchise and thought that the original RE2 was the best of the bunch, so needless to say I had super high expectations for this one, and I'm happy to say that they were mostly all met. I absolutely love the atmosphere and the gameplay (so glad they ditched the first person from RE7), and only have a few critiques.
As you mentioned, the whole A/B scenarios were a little disappointing and frankly felt half-assed... along this same line, the story now also makes less sense than the original game: if X is no longer going after Sherry's pendant, then what the hell is doing? I feel like if they were going to basically do away with the A/B crossovers then they should've just made Leon's path be about Ada/Brikin and Claire's be about Sherry/X.
My only other gripe is much more minor and has to do with the zombie grab mechanics. At first I was against them incorporating the defensive items from RE1 remake, but quickly adjusted to it. This does of course slightly affect how you must play the game; you can't deliberately take as many bites in an effort to save ammo but even worse is how much you get slowed down due to the animation and often get the direction your character is facing changed. Couldn't they have at least included the headstomps?!?
These things aside, it really is a great game and I'm amazed at how I still find myself running through it again and again (still need an S+ on Claire hardcore, dammit). Hopefully we don't have to wait as long for a Nemesis remake as we did for this one! ;)
