PS2 slimline silver

I remember hearing some people discussing whether or not Sony would make an add-on (some form of USB attachment) for the PS3 that would allow systems without backward compatibility to play PS2 games; and proposing that the device be sold for a MSRP of $60 with another member adding that he would happily spend $100+ on the device. Another member proposed the idea of implementing backwards compatibility through software/firmware updates. While these ideas sound awesome (particularly the latter) and may well be possible, the chances of Sony making backwards compatibility feasible by such means are slim at best.

It's probably not impossible to make a device add-on for the PS3 that would enable backwards capability, but does Sony really want to make such a device? Wouldn't Sony rather have people buy a PS2 console as opposed to making an add-on. Making an add-on would incur company cost and any company in the right mind wouldn't want that, especially not with the current economic climate; it'll be a lot of wasted money and effort on something that already exists.

Sony wants to expand the base of their products, condensing their systems into one single unit would only spell the loss of profits; they want people to buy their PS3's they want people to buy their PS2's. They want people to be using their PS3 for what it was intended for otherwise PS3 content would be stagnant, the demand for games on the PS3 would plumit and the in turn the demand for PS3 exclusive game developers would decline.

Do you find yourself turning back to your old friend the PS2?

There's just so many great games on there that I still haven't finished (namely FFXII -- the soundtrack to that game is simply amazing).

Happy Friday - off to see the Watchmen!!

Red, Lights, Camera, Action!

traffic camera

It's my first week back at college, and everthing seems pretty chill. Right now I'm just taking: music appreciation, criminology, art history, psychology, and English. My professors all seem pretty laid back; I hope I won't have to buy any books for my c l a s s e s. A lot of the time the professor doesn't even use books and the lectures actually provide enough information for the student to pass their exams. I have psychology tomorrow and based on ratemyprofessors.com he seems alright. Does anybody else use ratemyprofessors.com before they enroll into their c l a s s e s?

One of the biggest things bugging me are the red light traffic cameras right in front of my college on a very busy intersection. Since October the cameras were taken down for road construction; but now with the construction almost complete, I'm not sure if they've put the cameras back up. This is the most dreaded intersection in my city; but I've never gotten a ticket before, but it still bugs the marshmellows out of me everytime I'm waiting at a red.

Well today I got out at 1:20pm. It was a really hot afternoon, the sun was out and everyone was just feeling tired and sluggish. I was waiting at the intersection; I was about the 6th car down from the traffic light. I wasn't really paying attention to anything around me, it was just too hot to do anything. The car in front of me began to move so I followed after it.

Now here's what bothers me, I'm not sure what color the traffic signal was, I only remember that I followed the car in front of me. It was only when I got home that I started to get paranoid about it. I didn't see any camera flashes, but then again it was in broad daylight, so it could've went off without me noticing. It's not the first time that I've been paranoid about this, it's happened on a number of occasions where I'm not paying much attention to my surroundings and forget what happened. But so far, I haven't gotten any tickets.

Are there any photo-enforced intersections where you live? Can you see the camera flash in broad daylight?

Hard Driving

Happy Thursday everybody!

seagate black portable

Just ordered a Black Seagate FA GO 320GB portable hard drive from amazon. I've never bought an external hard drive before let alone an internal one. But I really need one because the hard drive I'm using is nearing it's limit; I only have a measly 160GB on my notebook. I remember the very first computer I ever had was a windows 98 with only a 16GB hard drive; surprisingly it lasted me 4 years without ever running out of space. I think another reason why it lasted me so long was because back then I hardly ever used the internet so I didn't download anything.

If I wanted to use the internet I had to run a 20 ft cable from the telephone wire downstairs; my parents had a shop at the bottom and if I wanted to use the internet I had to make sure I wasn't using it while the shop was open, otherwise customers wouldn't be able to call to make orders. Gone are the days of dial-up internet, and now I'm faced with downloading too much.

A large proportion of my notebook was dedicated to my music collection, but when I started to run out of space, I backed up my music to my ipod and used imeem if I wanted to listen to music on my computer. Even with a condensed library of music and video, I was still running into the situation of running low on disk space lolll. I don't really mind running out of storage space but I don't enjoy backing up files to spindles of DVDs so I've finally given in and decided that I am in need of a new hard drive.

So what do you find takes up most of your hard drive space? Share your thoughts :]
