You've got plenty of time. I say try to make and save money so you can buy both games when they come out. If one of the games don't turn out as well as it should then you'll have money for other games. Whenever I face a dilemma like this, I just try to find ways to make more money so I can just buy both games. If I want them both of course.;)
If you guys want to kill each other I recommend Call of duty 4 Modern Warfare and COD World at War. You can knife each other or use shotgun. That's always fun. I also recommend Little Big Planet. You'll find plenty of user-generated levels online that you guys will enjoy. There's also Rockband if your willing to shell out money for it. If you have more people, you can also do a Street Fighter IV tournamen!! Well..have fun!
I use the mic when I play online. I makes working with other players easier, especially in co-op like RE5. However, sometimes I have to turn it of because of annoying people making annoying sounds or with noisy backgrounds. This applies mostly on open-mic games. And besides, SOCOM came with a mic or the other way around, mic came with SOCOM game, haha. Good deal to me
