Had the title been Every GameCube game is coming to… would’ve been a different story.

1) From the off, position the Switch 2 front and center as a brand new product / system.

The name is enough of a call back to the Switch 1 for people to realize it’s the successor.

2. Give a name to the software you’re displaying. Especially if it looks the same graphically (when streamed) as what’s available on current hardware AND regular DLC was available as recently as last year.

To parents watching the trailer with their kids who aren’t familiar with serialized console naming conventions (even those that are) would confuse the Switch 2 as a Switch 1 Pro with how it was revealed.

Commenters have already said as much about some of their friends.

I’m not saying this will fail, but if Nintendo keeps marketing the switch the way it did just now, it’ll have a hard time transitioning the install base over.

Were it up to Nintendo, they’d probably not make a new console given the success of the Nintendo Switch.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo and 3rd party devs release games for both for a couple of years, just like Series X and PS5 launches.

But I do like the sleek design of the Switch 2, I enjoy DLSS tech, really love Mario and Co, enjoy some less hardware intensive titles on the switch and they’ll play better now and my kids play a lot on the Switch platform.

Nintendo has yet to announce proper titles, but that’ll come.

@Seymour47: I spent maybe 30 minutes bemoaning the botched trailer whilst countering remarks about the Nintendo Switch being “safe” and journalists framing Nintendo as suddenly a boring, by the numbers company because they didn’t use a wacky form factor or wily naming convention.

The “events” will have taken time to organize, so if Nintendo had wanted to reveal the Switch 2 in April as you stipulated, they wouldn’t have planned the events to go down the same week as the reveal. In that, I could be wrong, but that would leave so little time to market them. That’s just me using logic, not marketing expertise, as I’ve never had to plan events around console launches and reveals.

I’ll take it as a compliment that you spent so much time riling yourself up at my comments and scrutinizing the threads for how much of them were mine.

The only reason I care about how Nintendo started marketing the Switch 2 is because I’d like to see them succeed.

Otherwise, as noted, I was being sarcastic about not buying the Switch 2 because of some marketing faux pas.

@nintendians: it isn’t an upgraded Switch, just like the PS5 isn’t an upgraded PS4. That’s why that trailer was awful.

Even in the absence of all the leaks, it had to be the worst console reveal in the history of console reveals and that matters to me because I love Nintendo consoles and their game franchises 😁
