Think about it. Ever since his debut in Super Mario Sunshine Petey has been appearing in more and more of Nintendo's Mario-Centric games.
Super Princess Peach, Mario Pinball Land, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, NEW Super Mario Bros. Mario Sports games such as Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Mario Power Tennis and Mario Kart: Double Dash had him as a playable character! That's 7 appearences since his debut in Sunshine!
Don't worry about his size, he can be scaled down just like Bowser was. We can also think of a sensible moveset for him based on previous games:
- Left+b/Right+b-In Super Mario Sunshine, when you face him for the second and last time he can get knocked on the ground, when on the ground he swipes his leaf arms and creates a whirlwind. When he swipes his leaf arm and creates the whirlwind it could go a few feet in front of him and travel left and right for a few times before disappearing. This attack would work like Bowsers left+b. A slash but with the added whirlwind.
- Smash Left/Right-If you've played as him in Mario Kart: DD with him in the back then you know that when a lighter kart gets close to Petey he folds his leaf arm and punches the kart. That punch could be his smash move.
- Down (could be smash or special)- When you face him first in Sunshine you notice that if you walk too close to Petey he swings his head around him 360 degrees. This is an attack that could be made into the game. It'll work like Bowsers Smash down.
- Up+b- Maybe his goop attack...like Yoshis egg throw except that instead of exploding in Mid-air it falls back to the ground and makes the space it hits all slippery to everyone except him.
- Petey can fly- So there's room for aerial attacks like body slams or ground pounds WHICH was his main attack in New Super Mario Bros. AND in case you haven't noticed Super Smash Brothers Brawl is garnering a surprising amount of aeriel charaters. Pit, Meta-knight, now Ridley and likely Petey Piranha.
- Stage- The Big Windmill pictured up top, in the stage the camera will be facing the Windmill where Petey stands in Sunshine. Since the Windmill in the game had platforms to stand on in Sunshine it's likely you would be able to in SSBB too.
How come Nintendo is including a minor boss from Super Mario Sunshine into a lot of their games that I've listed at the top? The Wikipedia article on him even suggests the notion of him being in Brawl! You know how stingy Wikipedia is about speculation? Very. (No I didn't put it there.)
Also, Their have been only 2 other notable piranha plant characters in the past and both have dissappeared from the Mario series once they appeared.
1. Naval Piranha-Super Mario World 2:Yoshis island.
2. Lava Piranha-Paper Mario.
So that's the end of the post, think hard about what I've posted. Go over it and decide for yourself.
