Hey everyone, please read my race report, please comment! It still needs a bit of work though.
Welcome to the first drag here at the sunny Katuma drag strip, traction is good and we are going for a one-kilometre race. The stake is $150 each, however a new shop, Sub-Urbanz, who is offering an extra $500 for the winner, sponsors the race. This brings the prize total up to $800, the winner takes all.
So, I bet you are wondering who we have got lined up for this first ever event here at Katuma? Well, lining up in a sleek, black Chevrolet Cobalt SS is R_W. (Racing_Warrior.) This car kicks out 260hp, and isn't shy of putting it down with 220ft.ibs of torque. The car is meaty and weighs a total of 2,806ibs, making it the heaviest car out there today; maybe this could play out to his advantage as he has a bit more car to throw around. The mods so far are a Borla dual exhaust and a G-Reddy intercooler, this car is going to make a lot of noise today!
We also have the man who threw down the gauntlet, Jabe! Well it is not looking good for R_W here as this mean, lean Audi Quattro machine is putting down some astonishing figures. Before we get onto that we will discuss the driver, a relatively new driver he picked up his 1981 Audi for $4,000! He is already a member of the +1,000NM club and the VAG group. He means business and is here to silence the critics. Now lets take another look at this rather astounding car. This puts down 996hp, which is insane! It delivers the power too through the 888ft.ib of torque. A 460 big block engine powers this car, talk about breakneck! This guy has already upgraded his car with an engine porting stage 3 and a turbo and upgrade package from Venom. This guy sure does like his Venom parts as he also has a blowoff valve and an intercooler from them. This car is the bookies favourite with a 2:1 chance of winning. R_W's odds are a frighteningly bad 45:1!
There is a massive crowd here today to witness what is deemed as "the blow-out of the century." Before the race there was a great opening ceremony where some of the worlds greatest performers played live on stage. The two racers have a history of street racing in awesome cars, however their career came to a sudden halt as they both had their cars impounded and their money taken away by a bent officer. But that is a story for another time...
Before the race these drivers were relatively quiet, with a few comments made, mostly by the confident Jabe. They are making their comeback to racing after about 6 months of preparing, mostly filled with a lot of... Hang on we are crossing over live to the race as the two drivers are about to come to the track!
First out is the stylish black Chevrolet Cobalt SS driven by R_W, he seems to be very concentrated and focused, unlike the big, Audi Quattro that has just charged out onto the track, the wheels are spinning and the crowd is going wild, you can't be more confident than that! He seems to have forgot that awful crash that happened on the street with R_W before, where both cars were wrecked and in need of major repairs. Both racers will be hoping there is not a repeat of this as they have poured most of their cash into this, if they crash badly, it could mean a long time sat in the stands serving hot-dogs!
Finally it looks like Jabe is ready to start. The track officials have proclaimed the track to be giving more traction than they have ever seen so the have watered down the start line. Track temperature is great and the drivers are just speaking to the track officials briefly. The officials look happy and the lights are on!
There are 5 red lights, when they all go out, the race is on. The first red light... the second... The cars engines seem to be blocking out most of the background noise... three... four... five and the lights go green! We are go here at Katuma! R_W seems to have made one of the best starts I have ever seen; I guess that’s one of his specialities! Meanwhile, Jabe seems to have spent a bit too long focusing on the crowd and is slow to react. The Chevrolet is a fast car but is no match for the Audi as it chews up the road between the two cars. R_W knows his car is much slower so he swings out into the other lane. This is what racing is meant to be like! It seems that Jade has got his car to an insane speed as he was travelling in the Chevrolet's slipstream. The finish was in sight, R_W had two choices, he could risk it all and try to swerve into Jabe's car or he could try to block Jabe, he decided the stake wasn't worth risking so he swerved back into his own lane. Unknown to R_W, Jabe had also gone into his lane; R_W noticed this and using the traction that the track had swerved backwards and forwards. As he realized that Jabe was not letting up he decided for one last stand. He pushed the brake pedal lightly; this lit up the backlights and let some smoke come up from the tyres. He didn't slam it on; he just touched it for a second. This was enough for Jabe; the stakes were too low for his car to go flying into the back of R_W's car, so he slammed the brakes on thinking that R_W was doing the same. Before he realized, R_W had crossed the finish line and lit up the neon of the board: 25.23 seconds @ 132mph. Jabe was shocked. He had lost! Not satisfied he slammed the accelerator down and crossed the line with a time of 29.63 seconds @ 153mph.
So, it turns out that the bookies were wrong; R_W takes the $800 prize money. Now we wait for R_W to collect his prize and say his victory speech!
I hope you enjoyed the first drag at Katuma, see you next time!
