It's time consuming but not difficult, besides if it lines up with your interest studying for the courses should be enjoyable. I could never major in history, I would likely fail due to boredom/lack of interest. From what I've heard from engineering grads, yes, it's a difficult subject. Even if their words aren't taken at face value, just look at the engineering failure rates. They're higher than almost every other subject. Definitely up there with the hard and medical sciences as the most difficult major.
