racing games with horizontal split is ok with me. but i gotta agree 100% about vertical being the best for other games (particularly shooters). i read somewhere that the reason there is a cropped, horizontal split for R2... is because it provides the same viewport for players with widescreen tvs and players with standard tvs. i hope that makes sense. what doesnt make sense though, is even in an offline split-screen game in R2... we still get the cropped horizontal split. which sucks.
R2 might be the best online multiplayer. but the split screen co-op campaign from resistance FOM is by far the best multiplayer feature i have ever played.
stricty speaking, i was more impressed with fallout 3. im only a few hours into resistance 2, and its very good. but fallout 3 is great. if youve played and loved resistance FOM, then thats a good reason to get res2. but if youre new to the res series, i would say fallout3 should come first. the biggest disapointment for me with res2 is the fact there is no co-op story mode (like from the first game). there is offline co-op.. but it sucks. random missions, random maps, no story. resistance 2 is a shooter. fallout 3 is a first person exploration RPG with guns.
there is no co-op story mode. that aspect from the first one is 100% absent in res2. there is an offline, split screen, 2 player co-op mode. but there is no story, you dont play the single player campaign with 2 players or anything. its random missions, random maps, each time you die you go back to the MAIN menu screen. from the 20 mins i played the co-op mode, i have deduced that its almost utter rubbish. the thing that may save it is the leveling up, with XP. the single player game however... is very, very, very, very smooth. and i do recommend this game. but if youre after all-nighters, sinking piss, wasting chimera through the story with you mate... youll have to play resistance 1.
