Relyt92....

Was just banned this evening:( He's been on thin ice for awile now, but it's sad to see the good posters leave GS. He was one of my favorite people in OT and was a pretty intelligent dude, so I'll miss him....

I'm joining the army.....

Well, as you all probly know, right now my dream is to become a DJ, but I do not have the proper credentials to go to college and pursue my dream to the fullest. I've been talking to my father(Who was an army infantry soldier) and he said it would be a great oppurtunity to get some serious money and maybe get enough to go to a college someday. I'm 16 now, and when I turn 18, I can most likely get into the infantry division of the army. I've always kept in pretty good shape(Played football in basketball in high school) so basic training should be no problem. I might change my mind, but it's doubtful. I'm looking at my situation through a realistic perspective, and the best option for my future is to join the Army and try and get a good scholarship.

My Hip Hop Is Dead review!

Well, after listening to Nas' new album Hip Hop Is Dead for almost two weeks now, I thought I would review it for those curious about it. The album will be reviewed from track to track IN ORDER of tracklist.

Track 1) Money Over Bull****:

A great way to start the album imo. First off, the beat to this track is probly one of the best Nas beats I've EVER heard. Secondly, Nas' flow is on point in this track, and he talks some trash to other rappers *cough Jeezy and 50 cough*. This is probly my second favorite track on the album, the beat is just addictive, and Nas' flow does it good justice.

Rating: 9.4/10.

Track 2) You Can't Kill Me

For some reason, I'm really not feelin' this song all that much:? The beat is pretty repititve imo, and Nas spits some ok lines, but nothing "Woah" worthy. This song was OK when I first heard the leaked album, but I've grown tired of it. IMO a pretty skippable track.....

Rating: 4.5/10

Track 3) Carry On Tradition

I REALLY like this song. The beat is very nice and fitting, and has Nas talking about why rap is deteriorating. In the first verse, he talks about how some rap pioneers and how they are nothing but crackheads nowadays, he also states "Hip Hop been dead, we the reason it died". In the second verse, he attacks rappers that know nothing about rap, and go around disrespecting the game by spitting hate on rap legends and bragging about gang life and money.

Rating: 8.8/10

Track 4) Where Are They Now?

In this song, Nas samples a James Brown beat(R.I.P.). Most peoples opinions on the beat differ, many think it doesn't sound right, while some, like me, think it is a pretty tight beat. Anyway, to the song, Nas raps about the rappers that once were dope and now seemingly don't exhist anymore. Some names he drops include: Rob Base, Bizzy Bone, Kriss Kross, Lakim Shabazz, Fu-Shnickens, Coolio, and Tha Pharcyde. Make no mistake, Nas is NOT dissing these artists, he's just reminising on the legends that he misses that are no longer as crittically acclaimed.

Rating: 8.6/10

Track 5) Hip Hop Is Dead

A very good song, sampling "In a Gadda Da Vida" by Iron Butterfly and "Thief's Theme" from his own Street's Disciple album. But anyway, the third verse I really like in this song , where Nas says "Everybody sound the same, commercialized the game, reminiscing when it wasn't all business". Overall, great production by Black Eyed Peas member Will.I.Am. and a perfectly timed rhyme scheme by Nas make this a gem on this album.

Rating:9.1/10

Track 6) Who Killed It?

One word to describe this track is weird:? First off, Nas, instead of using his normal voice, talks like a mobster in the 30's:| It just straight up doesn't sound right imo, this track would be tons better had Nas used his normal rapping voice. But on to the song, the beat is VERY nice, and the story Nas raps is very interesting. He uses an unknown woman to represent Hip Hop, and he plays the detective that is trying to get to the bottom of the girls(Hip Hop) murder. He uses people like "Two Faced Al"  represent Biggie, and other such names to represent Tupac, etc.... Overall, a very creative concept, but I, personally, am not feeling this track. Nas' voice turns me off alot, and I'd proly like this track had he rapped in his normal voice. But the story and metaphors definately show some of Nas' great talents.

Rating:6.1/10

Track 7) Black Republican (Featuring Jay-Z)

This track is my favorite on the album, combining two hip-hop giants, and my two favorite rappers, on a very good track. The former rivals are both on point on this track. Jay-Z starts the first verse with some good lines, and reminisces on how Nas and his relationship deteriorated. Overall, Jigga's verse is better than anything he dropped on Kingdom Come. Nas spits next, and he plays the role of a "Black militant takin' over the government" and spits a pretty impressive verse. Both MC's ride the beat very well, might I add. The beat is very dramatic, sounding like something you'd hear in an orchestra or LOTR movie. A very good beat though.

Rating: 10/10.

Track 8 ) Not Going Back(Featuring Kelis)

On this track, Nas has his wife Kelis sing the hook of the song. It could've been a recipe for disaster, but Kelis does a nice job on the hook and doesn't tamper the song at all. The beat is very melancholy, and Nas spits about what he's not going back to(The streets, bling, etc...).

Rating: 8.2/10

Track 9) Still Dreaming (Featuring Kanye West)

If you've ever heard a Kanye beat, you'll have an idea what the beat to Still Dreaming sounds like. Not a bad thing though, since Kanye's beats are usually pretty unique and nice. Overall, Nas and Kanye both spit some good lines and the beat is a big high point

Rating: 8.4/10

Track 10) Hold Down The Block.

This is by no means a bad track, but not a good one, either. It's merely OK. The beat and hook are pretty boring imo, but I still find myself listening to this one quite alot. It's "Meh" but it is still enjoyable.

Rating: 7.8/10

Track 11) Blunt Ashes

This song was produced by Chris Webber(Yes, THAT Chris Webber lol) but Chris does a surprisingly good job on the beat. This track has Nas reminsicing on the suicide of Donnie Hathaway and the fall of James Dean. He also spits about the Troutman brothers, and JFK's enemies.

Rating: 9/10

Track 12) Let There Be Light(Featuring Tre Williams)

WOW. All I have to say about this one. First off, Nas uses up and coming R&B singer Tre Williams on the hook, and damn does he do a helluva job with it. You can feel the emotion coming from this track. The drums on the beat just get you into the mood of this song, and Nas thanks the hood for the love and scorns the haters. He rips the hip hop community for showing more love to "Gangsta" artists than rappers with actual intelligence and good messages.

Rating: 9.5/10

Track 13) Play on Playa(Featuring Snoop Dogg)

When I first heard the album, this was my least favorite track on the whole album. But after a few listens, I've come to like it. The beat is pretty laid back and has a funky feel to it. The actual track has Nas spittin on females and other such things. An alright track overall.

Rating:7.6/10

Track 14) Can't Forget About You(Featuring Chrisette Michele)

A very nice track. Nas spits on stuff he will never forget about, such as when Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince won the first rap grammy, or when Michael Jordan retired, or the first person he made love to. He states "Heinous crimes sell better than creative rhymes" and how messed up the gangsta rap has made hip-hop.

Rating: 8.9/10

Track 15) Hustlers(Featuring The Game)

On this track, Nas teams up with pretty much the only good gangsta rapper of today, The Game. Nas spits on how he was the first NY brotha rapping with Dre, and how it doesnt matter what coast your from. The Game's verse is Game explaining how ten years ago  he couldn't make the choice between  Dr Dre's The Chronic and Nas' Illmatic, and how he'sthe only Compton man with a "NY State of Mind.".

Rating: 8.8/10

Track 16) Hope

Nas goes acapella for the finale to Hip Hop Is Dead, and shows some of the raw freestyling ability he has. Nas' lyrical ability is shown in full force on this track. He states hip hop is about "us" and shows his frustrations for the corny bubblegum rappers that have killed hip hop. He states that some rappers would fare better as hustlers than good rappers.

Rating:8.6/10

Overall, a very good effort by Nas. Definately surpasses Streets Disciple and is on the level of God's Son and I Am... A must own for any Nas fan, or true hip hop fan.

Final Rating: 9.1/10

Recommending you an album to look into:) Anyway, Canibus is a VERY underrated MC imo, and Rip The Jacker here is an amazing album. You can just feel the vibe of the album, and Canibus is a better lyricist than you would imagine. Ever song on this album is great, from Levitibus to Spartibus to No Return to Cemantics, this ish owns. Even if you haven't listened to Canibus at all, don't worry, this is the album to get you into him. Check it out after the holidays, you will NOT be disappointed.

Merry Christmas:)

I love when people....

On the internet hate on rap, and make stupid genralizations about it because they heard a 50 Cent song. It REALLY makes me laugh, how stupid these people are:lol: I know this is gonna sound pathetic, but there's no better feeling that proving these fools wrong. I love it when they say rap is about"Drugs, women and money" and I post a video to Nas' The World Is Yours, or Tupac's 'Keep ya Head Up". great how they have no comeback to it:) I also love how they say it takes no musical talent, but they shut up when I show them the Roots, DJ Quik, or Outkast. Half these dudes can't spit a rhyme if their life depended on it, so they need to STFU about rapping taking no talent. Me=That dude when it comes to owning ignorant rap haters. Merry Christmas/hanuhkah/kwanza yall:)

Did some Christmas window shopping.

So tonight, at 1:30 AM, I was extremely bored, so I decided to head to Wal-Mart and check out some of the cool deals. Anyway, I was lookin at the Xbox 360's and stuff, and they have some good deals, but they all come with Burnout Revenge, and I'm not to fond of racing games. I don't wanna get a game that I'll probly never play, cus I don't like to waste things. I'll probly just end up buying the Premium system, with an extra controller, and a couple games. Besides that, I spent some time with my cousins from my mom's side of the family, who are staying at my apartment. They're kinda obnoxious and take up alot of room, but I guess they're alright. I'm gonna spend alot of time with my head-phones on and I'm gonna try and chill at my friends places to get away from all the craziness lol. Besides that, I'm just chillin, and anxiously awaiting December 22'nd, when 7 albums I ordered are gonna come in the mail. btw, if any of yall that comment here are good with Photoshop or GIMP, PM me, cus I need to request something for a friend on another forum.

One Love.
